ok kinda stupid question but I have the money now.

I think I will get everything

new:

mobo
psu
cpu
ram
gpu

However, if I wait til 1 week before BF3 release will current products be much cheaper do you reckon?

However if I sell my current hardware 2nd hand I will get more money now?

Sapphire 5770 1gb HD
4 1xgb sticks of ballistix tracer ram
2.13 GHZ dual core CPU intel
520w corsair PSU
Asus mobo

How much can I expect to sell these for?

being that no-one knows how it'll run as it's not out yet, how's about waiting until it's released and benchmarks are available? Then, post a thread with a budget and requirements - jobs a good 'un.

When it's released and you know a) whether it's actually any good and worth throwing £500 at to get looking nice and b) what it responds best to in terms of hardware

yes I suppose good idea mates.

I just wanted a nice shiny new pc for the release but I may as well wait 1-2 weeks post release to make best decision.

Though Im sure the game will be worth it

;S

I would probably wait. Especially GPU wise as there will be whole new generation at the end of this year probably which will give a considerable boost in power.

Oh it's the members market/forsale forum where you can do price checks on gear you want to sell. I guess you haven't been a member long enough.

I wouldn't worry too much about waiting. It's not like the game will only run on hardware that isn't even out yet.

I intend to upgrade when the 7000 series is out if I'l see a big performance gain, in the meantime I bought a decent but not top end card for a modest price to tide me over.

Its got un ULTRA setting so if you want that nobody knows, it might not be possible to run ultra with current cards in dual so we are all waiting to see. Personally i would go dual 6950.

Upgrading for future titles is a futile excercise IMO.

I remember a guy who bought a dual cpu setup in preparation for the release of Quake 3 Arena as it supported SMP, however in the end the actual gains from dual cpu were only of the order of around 10%.

Best option is to wait until it comes out then if you aren't happy with performance, upgrade then when prices will typically be lower and/or newer hardware will have come out.

Upgrade after playing is the obvious answer unless you got to bring the ownage from the moment your feet hit the ground

No reason not to unless our exchange rate about to collapse ala iceland,

However if I sell my current hardware 2nd hand I will get more money now?

The premium on newer gear always favours waiting. Cheaper and older gear loses value more slowly, people used nv6800 to play bf2 and those cards are still being bought and sold now when most would have assumed something so old is of zero value

Pretty sure OcUK may have some systems up for BF:3, like they have for WOW, however, get a quadcore.
