When the Queen dies....

The pause between the end of the program and the news was much greater on some channels. I remember watching the TV at the time. It was a few minutes on one of the channels, waiting for the other BBC channels to catch up.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the BBC will not show ANY comedy shows for a Month after and all the Official Announcement and tribute stuff is already recorded and ready to be transmitted, some Oz Radio station accidentally transmitted it a while back IIRC :D

Whether you like them or loathe them nobody can deny they are a big part of the culture here in the UK and even quite rabid anti-Royalists like me will recognise it will have a huge impact on the Country when the time comes.

I assume, like all those war scenarios the MOD have, there will be a forever updating system for important figures in case of death. Makes sense, or else it would be a nightmare!:p

Presumably a month or something of official mourning (where you can go and pass the coffin for a few days before the funeral), which wouldn't affect most people, and then a couple of days off for the funeral and the coronation. Both of which would be epic to see in real life, it's not every day you have a state funeral/coronation, even if the circumstances aren't great.

if she outlives phillip will he get kicked out of the palace ?

you mean if Phillip outlives her

it is quite possible he would be if Charles doesn't want him around, allegedly Phillip got the Queen mother out of Buckingham palace by turning the heating off

Knowing how big the monarchy is around the world, there will probably weeks of it being on TV worldwide.

It'll be tense, the queen does serve a useful purpose as our official person of officialness who has a big fancy house or ten to impress foreign diplomats.

If we didnt have a monarchy we would still need a president or a chancellor or someone to do that job so might as well keep it going, someone's face has to be on the coins, someone's got to be responsible for passports and someone has to be the offical "person in charge" even if the practical power is weilded by others.

So, what happens? Every TV channel just changes to the news and plays God Save the Queen, right? The banks close down and we lose billions over the next few weeks? How many public holidays will we get? Who'll go to work instead?

probably one public holiday I'd assume, I doubt the banks will stop - at least not the commercial or investment side

the worldwide TV coverage of London will likely cause a knock on effect of increasing tourism

It will be absolutely huge, on a scale that we've never seen before!

I'd bet the funeral will be the most watched live transmission ever. Most probable over a billion people will end up watching it live (possibly over a couple of billion). I'd also assume there will be events (not just the filing past the coffin at Westminster Abbey) over several days around the funeral as we. Just look at the wedding of Kate and Will as an example of how big it will be internationally.

At a guess half of central London will be shut down for several days as well.

Don't you all read David Icke??!!!!! She is a 7ft shape shifting lizard ;) :p There will be no death.

This.

It will be the biggest media event to date since the invention of undersea cable.

Despite the moaners who like to play the UK down, we are still very much in the big league and the rest of the world is actually very interested in what happens here!

I'd assume two, one for the funeral and one for the coronation. But I don't know what the time scales between the two would be.
