When the Queen dies....

Wonder if things like post boxes and police uniforms will be updated with new, given that it's currently E II R

Are there any previous kings who's name began with an E of which name there has only been one monarch, if so chaz could change his name by deed poll to that first name, problem solved billions of pounds saved suddenly Charles is a hero.

Ethelred the Unready.

[conspiracy theory]..the royal family & other EU countries with Monarchs will be banned by Brussels (yet another EU directive leaked by the DM) the Incumbent prime ministers of said countries will automatically become their presidents.[/conspiracy theory] :D :p ;)

the sooner the better. She's extremely rich and gets a lot of tax payer money.

That isn't true. She doesn't get any taxpayer money at all. In fact, she gets far less than nothing since she puts over £200M a year into the treasury from her own pocket in addition to the income tax she pays (which, unlike other rich people, she can't avoid/evade). The money you're referring to pays for things such as building maintainence and people's wages and on top of that it's 15% of what she pays as voluntary extra tax anyway.

None of that is secret or contested knowledge. It's known by anyone who knows anything about the subject or bothers to spend a few minutes fact checking.

You're right that she's rich, though. Do you think that all rich people should die as soon as possible? If you do, your views are internally consistent. If you don't, your views aren't internally consistent and you're merely making stuff up that doesn't make any sense.

I never thought of that. I wonder if they've started minting them already? :D

I doubt it, due to cost and other markings on currency. Storing significant quantities of currency securely is expensive. Coins are dated and notes (English ones, anyway - I'm not sure about Scottish ones) are marked with the signature of the chief cashier, so they're indirectly dated too.

Also, it's not certain who will be the next monarch. Heirs can die or abdicate.

Then there's the possibility of theft. A note printed by the official mint with an heir as the monarch could be sold for more than face value and would fetch even more if that heir never became the monarch or they did but with a different chief cashier.

I would expect the mint to have new currency prepared, but not minted. There wouldn't be any great urgency, since the existing currency would remain valid.

A large part of the point of a monarchy is continuity. Monarchs die. The crown continues. As the saying goes: The king is dead. Long live the king.

Franklin Mint will be working round the clock to churn out as many commemorative items as possible!

I think Charles will be king for a week then pass it on..just to get his name on the books so to speak

I'd imagine it will take over BBC news completely for a day or two and disrupt a lot of other programming. Other news channels will also report it and we'll get a day's holiday for the state funeral.

Then we'll get another day for the coronation, but that will be it. If she has not outlived him I imagine Charles will become monarch, but won't last very long.

I think the Queen probably has at least another half-decade in her though, possibly more.

Interesting fact, everyone who work's for the Queen, from personal assistants, drivers to cleaners will all be unemployed once she dies. Whoever takes the reign then chooses who they want to fill these roles.

Liz also likes to drives the Range Rover up in Balmoral. She also employs people who arrive a day or two before the Queen so they set the clocks before she arrives.

I was discussing this with my father at Xmas while he was watching The Crown, He commented on if they would get to finish that series before she or Phillip departed. (remember she was in all the papers with her cold at the time)

Don't normally read the guardian but that link was a good read.
