When to switch to Windows Vista?

I think its a bit hit and miss, I've had 64-bit ultimate edition on my main rig for the past few days but I have given up on. Most the time I have to wait a couple of minutes before a program will decide to open up. Also most the time if I have a couple of programs open windows explorer decides to crash.

I suppose I'm too used to Windows XP, I have not really encountered any problems with 32-bit Vista though so it might just be a driver issue or something on my rig. But I'm not too fussed I prefer XP at the minute its more stable for my system.

Also I did play counter strike source on vista and I found that performance was very good. Around the same amount of FPS I got on XP.

No harm in trying Vista out though you can try it for 30 days before you have to activate it with your license key so if it works for you, you can activate it not then you can put XP back on your rig :).

Quoted for absolute uselessness. Get a mac for Crysis? COD4? Battlefield? All of them I'm sure would absolutely fly on a mac [/sarcastic]

Windows XP is a solid operating system but it's now and old operating system. Windows Vista is superb - if you're thinking of building a new PC then I'd certainly advise going to it.

All of the games released within the last year I'd say would be fine (or just use the compatibility wizard on them).

Is Vista stable yet? Is it still rubbish for games? Does it still sap performance? What am I going to lose by going for Business over Ultimate?

Or should I just not fix what isn't broken and stick with XP?

Personally I have no issues with gaming in Vista,its superior to XP IMHO and my other PC is XP based.

Some XP users try to spread FUD about Vista gaming.
 
I've been running Vista 64 since October and apart from a few teething problems with the sound drivers it's been fine. I had to downloaded everything again and/or update but ince installed everything was fine. Overall, I'm very impressed by Vista and it's massive driver database.

Everything I've plugged into it works, even K800i works under explorer which was a right pain under XP.

Once everything was stabble and I loaded my apps, I took a system backup just in case.

I say go for it.
 
Yeah go for it, when you get the 22" you won't have to fiddle with resolutions or refresh rates which always gave you something to moan about. Vista will be a whole new load of problems, we will enjoy your 'emoness'.

a screenshot of shortcuts is hardly solid evidence! :p, the only game i've noticed a slow down with was Company of Heroes (haven't tried many though)
 
if you have 4Gb, then in order to make best use of it, then the 64bit version is the way to go.


Don't worry abount the x-fi.. It will work fine under 64bit. I did have problems with mine at first but the latest drivers seem fine.

Tip - review all your software first and download all the 64-bit versions/fixes/patches etc before you upgrade. You have them all to hand when you need them.

I guess you think my 50+ games installed is FUD too?

I'm beta game testing for some companies as well and I have no issues with my current games or performance,why do you find that so hard to believe?

I have been using XP for 7 years and Vista x64 for one year FYI.
I also consider myself a serious gamer so can't afford to have any serious issues with gaming and so far Vista has not let me down.

It is,but some XP users keep bringing it up in various threads.
End of the day I can only call it as I have experienced and gamed on Vista,I do consider myself a very experience XP user too.

I think you are trying to bait me and start a flame thread if anything,I never said one bad thing about XP,check my posts where did I say anything negative about XP with regards to stability,gaming etc?

Don't try and turn this into an argument from my very first post which you quoted.

So as a XP and Vista user I gave my Vista input on gaming.
