This is more out of curiosity than anything else, but when do you guys thing it would be majorly beneficial to upgrade my CPU? To Haswell etc

I build my system in Feb last year and haven't really kept all that upto date with the going's on of the PC, but after the hype of my PS4 dying down I've slowly made my way back lol.

I overclockered my i5 3570k to 4.5. Honestly can't remember what stock was but I'm sure you all do lol (3.4 maybe?) Build is in sig.

I wouldn't be able to afford a really overhaul until the end of the year anyways, and my comp still performs we'll right now. As I said, I'm more just curious! Obviously I could pick up a new GPU anytime and see an increase in performance, but anything else right now?
 
Honestly, I would leave it untill it start to struggle. At that point, you can add another GPU and maybe upgrade to a 3770k, if you feel there is a bottleneck with performance.

It's also down to personal preference and the "want" and/or "need" for the ownership of the most recent tech. Adding an SSD is another great addition.

Are you experiencing any performance related issues with your current setup?
 
Nope, nothing that wouldn't be expected with my GPU. It still holds up very well even in demanding games. My friend just started building again and I caught the bug, all I could bring myself to do was buy a new mouse though, it seems to take whatever I throw at it at the moment within reason.

I was just wondering as to where I stand 'on paper' today, because I really haven't been paying attention to new tech aside from the Haswell releases.

*SSD is something I need to look into. Decent one took me waaaay over budget last year :)

The jump from Ivy to Haswell would be pointless, they only run hotter with the smallest % of a performance increase. The biggest difference is the IGP which is of no use to you.

I'd wait for the next gen chips, 7nm or 14nm. I'm not even sure Skylake it going to offer much more, unless your are looking for DDR4, but I'm sure you'll be fine. My 2500k is still rock solid :D

Agree with this entirely. I moved from a 4.5ghz 3770k setup to the build in sig. My ivy wasnt a great clocker and got an ok price for the kit. But theres not an awful difference in performance. Looking back now, it was a bit of a daft 'upgrade'.
 
I went from a 4.5Ghz 2500k to a 4.6Ghz 4770k and notice no noticeable in game difference. I would stick with your 3570k and either go for a new GPU or SSD if you do not have one later in the year.

Thanks guys, I'll have to have a look into that. Not entirely sure how to go about installing my OS and most played games on it. I've never had two sources of local memory before :)

Also would installing an SSD effect my CPU overclock in anyway? At a guess I'd say it won't but I'm not sure if it would have any effect on settings etc, or is that all saved to BIOS?
 
The SSD wont effect your OC it is saved in the bios.
To install your OS you would need a disk or bootable USB with it on
 
Run my i7 3770k at 4.6 no hassel so will be good for, well till l burn it out :) 4.5 is respectable and as stated no need to upgrade just yet.
 
What's coming after Haswell? Will it be anything of significance performance/tech wise or are Intel keeping it under their hat?

I totally get that 'itch' though to upgrade, even when I know its pointless. I guess you cannot control your inner nerd in the end :P hehe.
