When will the forums get a 'like' button?

I'd rather see reputation meters, it's a good addition to a lot of forums i frequent. It helps you see who is helpful and who isn't, would be a handy way of pointing out the ati or nvidia fanboys in the graphics section as they would be negative repped for their constant plugging of their particular brand.....maybe even lessen the fanboy nature.

Yeah because sometimes these high posters chat a lot of rubbish.. this is what the layperson considers as a rating, when really they could just be a spammer :p (not meaning you of course;))

The "Thanks" button unfortunately leads to people giving smart arse replies in threads, especially in forums similar to GD. On other Boards I have seen it introduced on, these people are called "Thanks Whores" and overall it has a very negative effect on content on a board.

I would not wish to see it here.

Nate

These forums are well moderated and the people (generally...for the majority) aren't idiots, the whole "thanks whores" trend would just end up being cast out in the same way "WTLW" is here, i can't see it causing a problem if people become more helpful in an attempt to get a better rep meter.

After all why would someone thank a person for a smartass reply? more likely to be negative reped for the cheek of it :p

you mean we dont have smart arse replies already ?

Look a the replies earlier today about the threat asking where the MM was !!!

Placebo effect

Trust me, it'd get much much worse and every single thread would be full of nonsense. For the more technical (Civilised ;) ) parts of the the forums I'd have absolutely no problem with it, but it'd be a disaster for GD IMHO.

You are confusing the Thanks button with a rep meter. A rep meter is a good idea IMHO.

I think the other area you wouldn't want it anywhere near would be the sports section (specifically the football section) as i can see rep going all over the shop in there :D

Nate

The only forum i go on which uses them has them linked, thanking someone gives them positive rep, which i guess is where im combining the two. I like the idea of both in theory but rep is my preferred method for displaying how helpful someone is over time.

No ta - I'd get obliterated for being a religious grammar Nazi. I'd be dead within a week.
