Hi everyone,

It's almost been a month since Fermi's released and I know it's only kind of been in stock once or twice since then but still I would've thought the 5800's would drop in price, I bought my last 5850 for £220 and now they are up in price, I don't want to have to buy another on xfire for a higher price. I just want to know when the prices will actually start dropping so I can start to get my 2nd card?

Thanks

I think there has been a higher demand for the 5800 series lately, so I would expect a price rise instead. It should only last for a couple of months though, when demands have died down.

It's a real shame, I even bought a bridge so I shouldn't need a wifi card anymore and made space for a 5850 for xfire, oh well looks like I'll have to wait towards the end of the year.

but then newer ati will be out and the same price as the current cards or slightly more but a lot faster and you will be wanting one of those !

in the end you either need to save up or buy a lower speed version.

haha that's what happened when I bought my xfire 4850's

I bought them and they were hot as hell so I sold them and waited for the 4890 to release, but then I heard the 5800 series were releasing so I waited til then.

It's just going to happen all the time and I'm pretty sure these cards will be able to play mostly every game for a long time. So I might just stick with xfire 5850's or if the 6000 series just blow me away then I'll really get annoyed (since I hate going to the post office to send stuff off)

seriously the 5xxx series are quick but if you forget cost (not easy) and look at the GTX295 x2 gpu nvidia its actually only marginally slower than a 3200 core 2x gpu 5970 and its definatley faster than a single gpu 5870.. to be expected? well given prices etc.. yes, but id rather of hoped a 5870 would be at least on par with a GTX295 card seen as its new tech and really pushing ATi`s knowhow.

so yea.. i think the 6xxx series will be the real step forward over say the 295gtx but in single gpu form, to me that would be a real achievement

AMD's been like that with everything really, the CPU's and the GPU's, ok the 5800's are amazing cards but as you said the GTX295 isn't that far back from them, I also would have hoped AMD released something a lot faster, but I have a feeling with the 6000 series it may be the same but they have made quite a lot from 5800 sales that they could work on something that will beat Nvidia's next gen cards as well.

As for the CPU's AMD released the new AM3 CPU's, but still way behind from the i7's, which in turn AMD should have been on par with the i7's. Only time will tell with these guys I suppose.

sandeep yea.. to me amd ati / nivdia is like those horse racing games where you put a £1 in and what them leap in front of each other sometimes faster than the other but at the end its always a neck and neck finish.

for me a 6xxx will be fast enough if its 40-50% faster than 5xxx on the top end model

but you have to say that if nvidia can get those disabled cores going and add another 512 shaders with a revised design it could pip the 6 .

furthermore make or break the following year nvidia could hit 28nm tech and really pull ahead.

thats all speculation but safe to say i cant commit to 5xxx series yet i must hold out for 6xxx

but when ffs ! :D

sandeep - in answer to your question - imo not while demand remains high and nvidia stays with low no's & high prices for the 470/480

Tried MM?

Reckon will take a few more months before price war starts.... Nvidia really messed it up big time though.

If it was out 6 months ago id bet ATI 5870s would be sub £200 by now.

I think one of the above posters right though ATI will proberly just release replacement cards, cooler/faster and same price so forcing there customers/fans to simply spend the money regardless.

Only Nvidia can answer that but they would have too rollout another 5-6 different cards and cover the entire market then flood the market with silly amounts of stock, then ati will drop there prices sharply ;)

price will drop when the 5800s have competition! They are the best cards available in their price range (even with that price inflated, as it is).

the dollar exchange rate isnt helping things either atm.
