when will we see directx 10 agp gpu's

No need for dx10 mate till at least end of 2007. Even then dx10 games shoudl work fine on dx9 cards with more or less same visuals just slower performance a bit.
I mean i was thinking this as well but i very much doubt any agp card will ever be made for dx 10. Thats why i think ill just get x1950pro agp and hope it lasts a few years till i move to a conroe system unless amd are better in a year or two time again.

Ancient? Thats a bit harsh. Many Athlon 64 939 owners have AGP (including me) remember that high res gaming is more GPU limited anyway.
Having said that, personally I am going Conroe, because I do more than just game

As far as I was aware, the AGP bus had not been saturated and I am pretty sure the 8800 would not be able to saturate it either.
Of course, if I am wrong someone will be along in a mo to correct me

Theres no reason not to have dx10 on agp afiak but it may not appear because all the cash has moved onto the latest thing. If it were vesabus I'd agree with your analogy

Yeah, maybe PCI to PCIe would be bettet suited to your analogy, but AGP is still more than enough for the faster cards today. The real benefits of PCIe only really apply to SLi/Crossfire users.

Bottom line is though, unless you play at least 1680x1050 then you will be CPU bound, unless you are playing the abssolute latest games, at max AA/AF.
I personally view that if you are going to buy the 8800 series, you have to go dual core to get the most out of it (looking at various test done on Oblivion). If you have AGP, then you really may as well get a conroe and a new motherboard, rather than spending over a 100 on an 939 CPU.

AGP is old but still works absolutly great. A 8800 card would work on agp no problems. Just the industry is forcing us all on pci-e because its probably cheaper to make pci-e cards and eventually pci-e specs will kick in later along the line in a few years as at the mo a agp and pci-e x1950pro are almost identical in speed and probably is the same result if you compared a pci-e 8800 to a agp version if one was ever made.
Crossfire and sli could work on agp as well hech voodoo 2 did it with pci [old kind pci] cards i believe.

Theres plenty of life in Directx9. Infact in developement terms they havent even scratched the surface.
I wouldnt be so sure as to say your never see a Directx10 AGP card as it is possible to have a AGPx16 or even AGPx32 but whos gonna makes 'em when PCI-E does the same thing?
