When will we see recharable ammo a standard feature in games?

Why isn't this in every shooter by now? Its pretty much the same as rechargeable health. Are there any games out there right now that has rechargeable ammo?

I don't even like Rechargeable health! Will feel like I'm playing a game with cheats enabled with ammo the same.

What difference does walking over an ammo crate make though? Does searching for ammo or buying ammo make the game more realistic?

If you have rechargeable health and rechargeable ammo, then you could be pretty much invincible if you stayed in cover.

EDIT: Mass Effect 1 uses rechargeable ammo and it does work decently, however it doesn't have rechargeable health, so its balanced.

It makes a huge difference, part of the fun of Dead Space was how conservative you had to be on the ammo. I'm not fond of games where the ammo is too plentifull.

Not a huge fan of recharging health either. I prefer to have systems where you use a med pac or injection. Otherwise it's too easy to hide behind a wall and not get killed.

This,

Oh no I've used all my naughty guns ammo. I will just run away and sit here for a min and then run back in.

I prefer to have to manage my ammo.. A lot of games it is the only reason I will try other guns.

Then make destructible cover also standard in video games. :D

Tell that to the hardware!

I don't mind rechargeable health, but it depends on the game. Rechargeable ammo combined with health wouldn't work. Just makes the player way too overpowered.

I think games like Dead Space are an exception to this as its a survival horror game.

I am talking about games like COD, halo, gears ect. Would those games really suffer if you had unlimited ammo?

They pretty much have unlimited ammo anyway, especially cod. On vet I never once struggled for ammo, same with gears even in co-op and wyrdo's spray and pray. We never ran out. Anytime you move ten paces on cod theres an ammo crate that you can return to or a gun on a dead body.

Thats a failing in both games for me, you don't feel your up against it when you have near unlimited ammo.

There are a few games where you get unlimilted ammo but you gun 'overheats' and has to cool down

JFY.. I'm not saying I am for this idea, I just think ammo searching is getting old.

I think if the ammo recharged every 30-60 seconds once you were empty would work better than searching for ammo crates for a few minutes.

Yes because what we really need to is to dumb down FPS gaming even further.

Kinda reminds me of that bit at the end of MGS2 where Riaden asks snake if he needs a clip and snake points to his bandanna and says "Infinite ammo", I mean for the player its just a cheat so fair enough but if it's a core part of the game and your weapons aren't powered by glowing goo then you have to come up with all kinds of whacked out reasons for how your spawning crates of 5.56mm rounds out of your arse on a regular basis.

Never if I get my way :D

Something so satisfying about going up against a horde of enemies only to take down the last one with your last round :)

Rechargeable health can just die too. (In the face for preference)

Not an fps, but Tomb Raider has always had infinite ammo for your basic pistols. Serious Sam had it for the pistols too. Don't think I've played any with infinite ammo for all guns though.

But if I recall neither of those had regenerative health :)

Having one or the other isn't too bad but to have both would make the game far too easy unless the number of enemies increased or became more difficult to avoid.
