I have revently been running some 1080p resolution movie files on my pc and in scenes where there is a lot happening (e.g. huge flocks of birds) i am finding my system stuttering and the framerate dropping considerably.

am i lacking something in my system that is causing this?

i would have thought it was more than capable of running something in HD

(i have tested using media player and divx player and get the same result)

any ideas?

I notice the odd stutter on mine rig too. I would have thought it would be able to handle it fine. :/

Try using vlc or media player classic. My pc has no problem playing 1080p h.264 videos so yours shouldn't either. It's possible that you have some crappy h.264 decoder installed as well.

Agree with this, your setup is more than good enough to play 1920x1080 h.264.

the 8800gts and gtxs dont have the video stuff on the pcbs like the 8600s or something i think, sure i read something like that somewhere, they use brute force for the decoding instead of having a specialist chip, think this would mean dodgey decoder would be more noticable so id go towards that, definately use VLC!
