Im looking for some 1066.7 DDR2 memory, also has to be 4 gig, looking at a 2x2 configuration ! all i see is 6400 stuff...

also has to work in a 680I chipset or future 790i chipset

(dam 4x2 typos lol)

Well Mushkin do some 2x2gb PC8500.

But it's £435.

I'm not linking to it tho.

Why not 4x1GB? My evga 680i worked fine with 4x1gb of ballistix(pc 5300) @ 1000mhz. Gives you a lot more options tbh.

The Corsair 4GB Kit is crap, it will not overclock more than 20-30mhz at any timings with any volts and I was warned this here but too late as I bought it.

I then bought the expensive Mushkin XP2 6400 4:3:3:10 kit and it was a bit lackluster to look at and I wondered how it was going to even run cool as of small form and it was really hot to touch at 1 point at stock.

I got testing and it acted up by end of the 1st day with spreaders working loose (even though held by thermal tape) and PC not booting and general errors with applications in Windows.

I did get over 900mhz out of it with them timings at 2.125v (max rated on spreaders) and slight raise of Chipset volts as you may all need for 2GB Modules.

I returned it under the DSA and await refund and am back on my Corsair 2GB 6400 DHX running 950mhz (was supposed to be Dominator, dont have clue WTF they are doing with names recently as the 4GB kit I had is not even on their site).

Some day we may get good 4GB kits, it was same when 2GB kits came out.

Any idea when good 4GB kits will come? I really want to get some (8GB in total).

Any 4gb kit based on current Micron is a "good" kit. They are not going to be OCing monsters like old BH5s, TCCD, or D9GKX but, they run much faster than any CPU out right now anyway. If you use 8gb then your OCing is going to be limited anyway so a current kit will do just fine for you. The opinion that current kits are "crap" is just that, an opinion.

How can they run faster than any CPU ?

Your 4GB kit wont even do 831mhz, my CPU and Mobo can do 500mhz(2000FSB) so The Memory will need be at 1000mhz to be In Sync/Linked.

The current Corsair 4GB kits ARE crap, I was told that here and I have found what he said exactly true in thats you get 20-30mhz OC max.

And BTW, that was in this Rig and a AM2 set up where the Memory controler is in the CPU and even the cheap normal Corsair DDR2 hits 1000mhz with its 4:4:4:12 timings and 2.1v.

The 4GB kit I got is not on the Corsair site, never was and at time I bought there was not any 4GB kits on the site, and some rebranding has went on with Dominators becoming DHX so Im told.

I await the day Corsair realise peeps on Vista64 that play upcoming hardcore games need 4GB so will make better kits as they did when 2GB kits were virgin and as bad.

That page has been up for months now. And Dominators did not become DHX. DHX is a totally different part.

I should have clarified that the PC6400 is faster than any STOCK CPU right now. It's a DHX part which means it is not going to OC like a comparable Dominator kit. Lack of OCing is NOT an indicator of quality. In some cases, certain ICs just are not going to OC all that well. However, I have seen these kits at over DDR900. So, "most" people are not going to be hitting a 450+ FSB and a quality 4gb kit is fine for them. I agree with you that it will be nice when the 2 x 2gb kits OC as well as the current 1gb D9 based memory. But, for most, a Quad at 400 FSB @ 1:1 with the memory is going to be fine.

If you think your kit is defective, we'll gladly replace it.

So how much would it have to overclock to not be carp? You bought a part rated at 800MHz and that's what you got. You even accept that you were told up front that they didn't clock. Yet you feel the need to attack them aggressively in public.

At the moment the ICs required to make reliable 2 x 2Gb kits are very rare, and what is rare is expensive. If you wanted to run 1000MHz, you should have bought the Mushkin, which will doubtless run at it's rated speed. But you didn't do that. You bought a kit that runs at it's rated speed and even overclocks a bit however you seem to be incredibly bitter that you didn't get a 1066MHz part for 800MHz money.

I have to say you come across as extraordinarily unreasonable and rude from these posts.

He works for Corsair so you do the maths and I got the ram replaced in a few days after giving up on it, it cant even run 800mhz with lower timings.

I was told by a peep here with 1000's of posts that the 4GB kit would not do anymore then 20-30mhz over the stock 800mhz, he was indeed 100% correct, in a AM2 rig and this rig thats about what I got no more no matter what volts.

I would strongly advise nodoby to buy it to OC and the fact remains the model I had is still not on the Corsair site and is no longer sold here and for the rebranding well I wont repeat where/who told me that as touchy subject in here.

Above is the only 4GB Dominator kit on the Corsair site and mines was PC6400 and still aint there.

I can not comment on the above Memory.

I dont care less what you think of my posts, the Mod aint touched it so cant be bad.

I said its crap as I dont want others wasting money on it esp if they want to OC and if you read my posts (inc above in here) you would see I did buy the Mushkin and it aint as good as its said to be.

Everything I have said its true including the fact my ex RAM is not on the Corsair site that one he linked to is not even Dominator and who am I attacking, Corsair ? and who told me it was bad to OC upfront ?, it was a peep here and I already stated it was ordered by time I regged here to ask.

You really need to learn to read in future cause I get sick of repeating.

You have made it very clear in other posts and in this one that you don't like Corsair. It's a good idea to not try to convince you to think differently. Again, if your memory won't run its rated specifications, we'll gladly replaced it.

Maybe you're being too harsh. Just because it doesn't overclock all that well doesn't make it crap memory more it's your kit didn't overclock well so wasn't good enough for you but for many others it'd still be classed as a quality 4GB kit.

Yellowbeard tried to explain about the 2 x 2GB PC6400 kit being perfectly fine for a lot of overclockers since many of them will have the memory running in spec. Even a Q6600 at 400 x 8 will still have the memory running at it's rated speed and for example on air that'd be considered a very respectable overclock.

Thats total BS m8, all my Ram in past 5 years has been Corsair, inc current just the 4GB kits currently are not good for OC'ing.

I recommend Corsair overall and hope for a new better 4GB kit, you show me one and I will buy it now.

And it was peep above who said about speeds, I know the 4GB kit did run 800mhz so aint classed as faulty.

All my other Corsair inc cheapo XMS2 can do 1000mhz with its 4:4:4:12 timings, and no idea why he even claims about the Mushkin for overclocking (I did own it), its only rated for 800mhz with 4:3:3:10 timings, Im sure if you could not get to higher than 800mhz they would say its within specs.
