Where do I get started on getting home plug?

I want a wired connection but ain't gonna pull up the carpet and floorboards and re-wire the house so home plug is basicaly my only option. Where do I get started, what do I look for and how do I know if I have a good wired connection? Also 4 people will be using it with like 2 appliences from each person.
 
Just look for the homeplugs in overclockers site. You will probably come across packs of 1,2 and 4. Buy as many as you need, 1 plugs into the socket next to the router and one plugs in next to the pc. You then take a wire from the router to the homeplug next to the router and take a wire from the homeplug next to the pc and pluig it into the pc.
You are now connected its as simple as that and nearly all (if not all) home wiring will work with them.
 
Only like it would a normal router with more people on it. You need homeplugs for each person who wants a connection. I only ever had one set running for me though so wait till someone else answer who has used more than one setup in the same house for more info, there maybe a way to minimise the homeplugs, like with switches etc.
They are really easy to use though.:)

there all the same. I got a 2 pack and it came with two of the same homeplugs in it.
Maybe you could buy a pack of four or something and set them up and then this will give you a good idea how many more you need.
Basically you have one sending a signal and one receving the signal. When you first plug em in you press a button on each one to pair them.:)
 
Now this is where I'm not sure as you have to pair them up, I'll say probably but I've never had more than two on the go so I don't really know for sure.
Thats why I suggested you get a pack of 4 so you can try it out and if you do need two for each connection then you'll still have enough for two connections until you buy 4 more.
If you find out you only need one main homeplug and the rest as singles connected to it you'll have enough for 3 connections and you'll only need 1 more.
Either buy 4 and see or maybe wait until someone can tell you for sure.

Yes, but using more than one at a time can slow things down as they're all sharing the same bandwidth - just like wireless. If you have 200Mbps homeplugs and the clients are just using the internet then you won't see any difference. They do NOT need to be paired, they just work. The only time you need to press buttons on them is to set up encryption which is simply unnecessary in a normal house and you can set up more than two at a time anyway.

My home plugs are not very good, although it could possibly be due to the wiring of the house or interference but the speed isn't very good and they occasional disconnect from the network then reconnect. I get a better speed and a more stable connection through wireless surprisingly. I wouldn't want to add another home plug at the router end because the ones I have cant take much through put, these are generic 85MB ones from the rain forest place. I wouldn't want to have loads of them because there is only one plug at the router end having to accept all of the data, if you are just having one of them then it would be OK. But having any more I would say get a decent router with good wireless and get a good wireless adapter for your PC.

Although this is just from my experience.
