Hi guys,

I just got some bits and pieces fitted so i could use my iPod in my Mini One (2009), it's a bit more of a painful process because i had the stereo upgraded (by Mini) when i bought it brand new.

I asked questions like, will the main stereo controls control the iPod or will i have to use the iPod itself, general stuff like that. All fine and dandy, so i thought.

Then once i got home to have a proper play with it (i was in a rush to get home and didn't get a chance at the Mini dealer) I found that the interface and subsequently using it, is for lack of a better word, utter ****!

Can i go back to them and ask them to remove it and get some kind of refund or what?

Can't say i've ever experienced something so bad.

From what i can tell, instead of it being a simple plug it in, select the song and away we go jobby, it loads it on to some hardware they've installed (which takes like 3-4 mins) and then navigating is a nightmare. It uses the CDchanger functionality. So you have 1-6 buttons, each button corresponding to a 'Directory' i.e. genre, artist etc
Each directory is limited to 255 'folders' or albums i believe.

So, the fact i purposefully have a big iPod to hold all my music (1300 albums or so) renders this pretty rubbish.

The reason i went for the installation was so i could have all my music at my fingertips in my car.

It's made even worse by the knowledge that my mate has a old car where he literally just plugs a cable into an aux port or whatever and then uses the ipod to choose an album/song and that's that.
This cost a fair whack :(

So am i shafted or can i get it all refunded? :(

This is going to be a nightmare to sort without a record of what you asked for originally :(

You should have asked on a forum of likeminded people first :(

Well, that's just it, you'd think that seeing as im using the manufacturer and it's just a simple iPod, that it'd be a simple interface where you choose the artist > Album > song.

But it's simply the most archaic thing i've ever bore witness to, the frustration is palpable!

I thought it'd be a simple purchase, i've been burned :(

There is no such thing as a simple interface for an ipod unless the vehicle manufacturer has built one already.

I have the ipod functionality you want in my 5 Series but I had to buy £200 worth of equipment alone to get that :(

If its a Mini dealer that did it i think you might have more joy than with a Car HiFi shop. (at getting a refund i mean)

Double that for mine if you include the labour. Because of the upgraded stereo i had originally, they said it was a 2 hour job, and because it uses fibre-optics it shoots up in price. I'd happily pay whatever just to have a working, simple interface, i'd even settle for using the iPod to navigate etc.

Aye, i've all my fingers and toes crossed currently!
