Where do you buy your oil and what price?

Bought my last batch from VW TPS (basically their trade counter). 20l of "Quantum platinum 5w40.

Suits my BMW engine perfectly as it has LL04 accreditation, and it's actually just a rebottled Fuchs Titan GT1. Anyone who knows about oil will tell you Fuchs are one of the better brands, just less well known than brands such as Castrol.

£54 for 20l, can't argue at them prices!

Apparently, TPS is very shortly going to stop selling to the public and will be trade only.

I use the Quantum platinum in my Golf, I normally get it from ebay for around £20 for 5ltrs

I just wait until ecp has a sale on and then store it until a service is due.

Both my car (mx5) and gf's car (astra) use 5w30 and I've been tempted to buy a big container for multiple changes on both rather than a pot of ford spec and another of Vaughan spec, I suspect the actual difference is negligible.

Usually carparts4less and if they don't stock it then I just go to opie. Carparts4less is usually about £15 for 5 litres of Shell Helix either Ultra or HX7 depending in which car its for.

+1 Opie Oils.

Was the only place I could buy the 0w20 oil for my Audi I could see online.

GM's Dexos 2 is 5w30 fully synth and really cheap and can be used in many cars. I buy it in bulk

The idea of 0w-20 makes me cringe I am afraid. (And there are even thinner oils out there now)

It is like kerosene.

Is this really adequate as a lubricant for hundreds of thousands of heavy use, or is it driven mainly by the need to scrape a couple of Gm/Km off the CO2zzz and something just a bit thicker might actually be rather better if you want to get long life out of the engine.

Shell Helix Ultra, 5w40, EuroCarParts (carpartsonline are the same I believe) in the Integra. £21 or so for 5l.

And whatever the dealer choses to use in the CR-V - Fuchs Titan I think. Cost - big, but someone else is doing it for me.

Opie Oils
ECP with discount only
Halfords if emergency
Try to find another UK dealer on ebay selling "parts" online and if its cheaper than your local dealer, see if they can price match or beat it. I did this with Toyota, I found a Toyota dealer selling engine oil for £xx cheaper than my local dealer on ebay and I asked them if they can price match it or beat it and they did.

Developments in oil quality, manufacting improvements allowing tighter bearing tolerances, wider bearing journals

Plenty of reason why there is nothing wrong with a 0w20 oil

It's what VAG use on a lot of their cars, including my 2017 A4. I'm not going to go against their advise tbh.

It's pretty pricey stuff though.. https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-162116...-fe-0w-20-vag-fully-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx

That's really good price, i might switch to Shell for my K24 Accord, i've usually always stuck with castrol at a higher price.
currently £21.26 on CarParts4Less for 5L

Its carparts4less not carpartsonline, but they are the same company as far as I know, and the prices are consistently cheaper. I dont even bother checking ECP anymore. For anything, not just oil.

yes excellent .. is that walk-in, or, no matter ?

Phoned up my local, 'hello I need 20l of this oil'

'yes sure, account number?'

'cash payment, will come in to collect'

'no bother, come whenever'

Yes, they're technically 'trade only' but most will just put it through as a cash account. If not, some traders sell the oils on ebay albeit at a bit of a markup (about £60 delivered vs £50 walk in https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-...734218&hash=item3d5c883210:g:WhwAAOSwrU1bF~n0)
