I am a big fan of the brain-as-a-computer metaphor. At conception your parents mix up a bunch of code to form the physical, unique you (sexy right?). Some stuff comes naturally, like your heart beating or remembering to breath, but the rest is learned code - monkey see monkey do style - till we reach the apex of oh so clever super smart modern man.
At first, your parents and close friends/family control the code that gets downloaded in to you. Soon enough, you go to school and start getting code from different sources, some good, some not so good. At some point, you end up the big wide world, free to make your own choices, free to choose the code that gets put into your brain.
But where do you go?
Everything you are exposed to in your everyday existence is code that is affecting who you are and the person you will become. How many people leave their moral fate up to chance, or linger in a bad place for too long. Would it not be better to choose good code sources?
/meta rant
Lately I have become a big fan of the podcast medium as a way to tap into a healthy information resource I can consume while going about everyday activities. An episodic weekly download of interesting information on random topics to broaden my horizons and defeat ignorance.
Highlights include Ted Talks, Stuff You Should Know from How Stuff Works, Infinite Monkey Cage, Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders etc etc.
So good folks of GD, where do you get your good code? Where are good places to hang out to become better people?
