What exactly is this supposed to mean?

I know the context in which it's used, like my answer phone message this morning saying 'where do you get off calling my sister a... etc.' but it's never really sat right in my head. It doesn't make sense to me :/

Getting off what? a train or something?

What did you call his sister?

LOL, totally missed the point of the thread but still hit the bullseye :D

As far as I can tell it means at what point to you get off the metaphorical journey from what is considered normal to unexplainable/inexcusable etc.

I called her sister (who is also my ex) a '****ing disgrace' for cheating on her current boyfriend while she was visiting her sister (and me) for a few days

Was it you who she cheated on her bf with?;)

No

I'd said to myself beforehand I wouldn't have done even she had done something because from what she'd been telling me about how happy she was with her current guy, I would have felt bad, because I am good friends with her still.

I have another one, when people say "i turned round to him and said" "and he turned round to me and said". Were they on the tea cup ride at Disneyland when they were having said conversation :D.
