Where do you get really good laptops from?

Manufacturer wise? OCs Asus offerings look a bit budget, I was thinking about the Alienware Aurora but the screen res isn't as high as I'd like even though it is 19". Min 17", high res as possible for coding and video editing with lots of windows open. No Macs, preferably XP Pro with Vista upgrade.

I don't want much do I!?!

Cheers

Apple! ;-)

Do not get an Alienware... overpriced useless rubbish. My poor mate spent £2k on a doorstop, they gave him the run around knowing he was going to China and wouldn't be able to persue the matter.

if your adventurous you could grab a laptop barebones and build to spec :)

Where from...? I'm adventurous lol as my mine has now died and I've had it apart and back together. :D

I'd love one... and I know it would work - or get quickly replaced. Alienware have terrible service. Though they have now been bought by Dell - i don't know if that should improve my thoughts about them ;-)

Yeah, Alienware are for people with more money than sense!

That's probably me tbf. I can't find a Lenovo with a bigger screen than 15.4. I've seen a few HPs which look alright, one is even 1900x1200 native, neither is Core 2 though just Duo :( Will that make much difference?

Am I just buying at the wrong time?

SL has same res issues as aurora, like the CTX though, I think with the NVIDIA Quadro FX Go 2500M. C|net think it's the bees knees. I like the fact you can spec it with XP Pro, or should I go for Vista now?

How about just buying a eATX case with say a 20" CRT, buying the best parts money can buy (im thinking an AMD 4X4 system), and say about 9 UPS's.... Carry all that around with you, just spray paint the word LAPTOP on it.

I never understood why anyone would buy a 19/7" laptop, the thing weighs 20kg, runs for abuot 5 minutes and could melt the polar ice caps.

But if you still don't care, how about a Toshiba? You can get a tablet one too! There is always a VIAO, but they look stupid.

Not everyone wants a laptop to use on a train etc, some people just want a moveable desktop.
