Where do you get your game reviews?

Be careful with Youtube reviewers.

These guys are mostly "Full time" pundits.

Most will not go all out and say "this is ***", they just play for ½ hour and explain what a good time they are having with the occasional "Ha, that was funny, but this is a preview build".

I do watch gameplay videos from randoms however, no commentary.

It's good to find a youtube host that shares your opinion on other games. The only issue is the amount of time it takes them to release their review.

Angry Joe
Total Buscuit
NODE

Outside of that I read threads here but unfortunately the haters LOOOOVVEE to post their thoughts and the happy folks just move on, so that's not always an effective approach.

I always have a look on meta critic, used to trust pc gamer too. Recently though I've been checking YouTube for actual gameplay videos. Times are changing.

I always have a look on meta critic...

Problem with Metacritic is that they set the score right at the start and literally can not change after. So a game can be released as pre-alpha and get a dire score then the final release is outstanding and Metacritic shows the awful score.

I did not know this! That's ridiculous. I always check there because it has a list of various professional reviewers and I like to have a quick check through the good and the bad to see if there's anything that would put me right off. The user reviews are usually 0 or 10 in an attempt to alter the average score to what they deem to be correct which is annoying too. The more I look at it, the more I question why I bother checking it.

User reviews on forums and youtube for me.

I dont trust professional reviewers at all. Its inherently corrupt. Professional reviewers want early copies so they can get their reviews out early. Earlier reviews get more traffic and hence make more money for them. Publishers will give out earlyy copies knowing this. If they get an unfavourable review they may not give out ealry copies to reviewers again so publishers have some power in this situation.

Metacritic or youtube (TotalBiscuit, Angry Joe or randoms).

I will also check to see if there's a thread in the gaming section on OCUK too, especially if the game has already been released.

I tend to play the games and then review them (or some of them) on Youtube :D

All for fun of course and my own opinion.

metacritic for it's pro reviews and user reviews. tbh I read both, but usually look more at negative user reviews that aren't rants to get an idea of shortcomings. I also check out gameplay footage and screenshots. of the "pro" review sites I only trust Kotaku and Gamekult (French) for a more objective review (even if I don't agree with reviewer they seem more objective than other sites who are on the payroll). back in the day I would simply try a demo, but nowadays they just aren't available unless you pre order to get what is called a beta etc...

Metacritic for an overall idea, with the customer reviews to see if there is any drama on launch. Then as many others have said, TotalBiscuits WTF is.. series is great to get an idea as well.

I tend to go straight to YouTube and try and find some footage of gameplay and develop an opinion from there.
