Got bored and booted up Goggle Earth, My street is full of retired people, I am the only person below 50 in my street, its nice and quiet and its good street to live in.

This is my street. I've "spray canned" the actual road, and no, that's not an arrow to my house.

Unfortunately, I fall just outside the detailed area where I live...

I had a look at this thread and downloaded google earth. Now i'm very very afraid..

I can pin-point a date at which the photo was taken because my cousin was knocking down his house (it's half demolished in the pics) at the top of our road. That took him about 3 weeks. But it's been a while ago, i'll have to give my old man a ring in the morning and find out when exactly that was.
Really bloody scary though. Thats been at least 6 years ago, probably more. I never even realised that such technology was used then, and jesus. Why was the whole UK being photographed 6 years ago???..

Google Earth makes you afraid? You better not look into spy satellites and spy planes then :) I assure you, the UK has probably been totally mapped out in much higher detail than that for a long, long time. There's probably a Russian satellite counting the change in your pocket right now :D

wow google earth is truley awfull around bristol. My new palce isn't even there. No road nothing even though the house is around 3 years old... As for my old place only pics from about 6miles up = no detail..

Is there any way to tell exactly when a particular satellite snapshot on GE was taken - other than just by hazarding a guess based on what's on screen? Just curious, as our gaff shows up with its extension built in 2002, which means the imagery could be bang up-to-date or anything up to four years old ...

Most of it was done 4-6 years ago, and the initial results published lo-res in a CD that came with a copy of the Times I think?

Since then some cities have been covered in further detail.

Where I'm from in mid wales the entire town is just a brown pea-sized smudge :(

Going by what I know of our house, this must have been taken a long time ago.
