I checked in the MM Q&A thread about posting this thread and should all be fine as long no competitors are mentioned.

I'm trying to shift my Corsair 550D and i've had no luck in the MM, fleabay, tomshardware, gumtree, craigslist etc. Just now posted on AVForums and a free local ad site but my hopes are not high.

If anyone happens to know of any other decent places to advertise i'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Well if you're not having any luck on those very large sites, what makes you think you will have any luck any where else?

You're probably asking too much, not making a very good "sales pitch" or something similar.

I'd wager the bigger problem is your asking price, especially with the blemishes. It can be had for £30 - £40 more brand new

[Edit] Heck, even OcUK has a B-grade one for sale at the same cost as your asking price

Lower your price if it's too high and you shouldn't have trouble getting rid of it on these big sites

£75 plus delivery is too much imo, as someone has said OCUK stock a B grade one for £70 delivered. Personally I think the new Fractal Define S for a fiver less new is a better option.

I only put the price high due to MM buyers love of "cheeky" offers in the region of 40% of the original asking price, assumed it would similar on other forums.

They do this because people ask comedy money for used stuff - only yesterday a guy threw a hissy fit because people wouldn't give him 270 quid for a graphics card with no games that was 279 quid brand new with 2 games. So people make what look like hugely lower offers but in reality that is often the second hand value of the item.

Your price must reflect the degradation involved in a second hand purchase.

Lets say I want your case.

I can buy it from OcUK for £70 delivered. They are an established retailer. I am at almost no risk of fraud (I'm sure you are a great guy but it's a reality in private used sales), it will arrive next day via DPD and if i don't like it I am protected by consumer legislation which allows me to simply change my mind and return it.

With a second hand one, what if it's not quite as mint as the seller says but not so tatty as to warrant a grievance? When will it turn up? etc etc. For me, I'd want a fairly useful saving on the new price to justify the increased risk and faff of buying a second hand one. This is particularly true of a case because cosmetic condition is crucial, at least with a CPU it either works or it doesn't.

So personally if it was any more than 45 quid or so it would be difficult to justify not simply buying it from the retailer.

This is presumably why nobody has bought yours yet.

Yeah that's fair enough, I actually didn't realise cases drop in value that much or that a B grade item would be so much less (for this case in particular).

If it's way too high no one would bother to contact you. But if the price is let's say a max of 5-10 quid more than usual you get some people that will make an offer.

.

Yea that guy was a muppet lol.

I have always thought selling second hand was knocking off the 20% VAT then at least another 10% for wear and tear - perhaps I live in another world.

I am building a cheap second PC and looked for towers - in end got new one for 15 quid.

Possibly no one in the market for the case at the moment, at least not one in that condition I guess.

Gumtree does pretty well, if you have decent pictures and put a mobile no too (I find most people are on the go when browsing and prefer sending a text or calling).

Dealing with gumtree people is quite literary painful.
Being offered random ****e xboxs, phones, alloy wheels air-rifles instead of cash is the norm my response ;

No Swaps, trades or exchanges for goods or "services"
Simply currency ; Currency was developed in the ancient world as a medium of exchange, This worked well until the arrival of gumtree,
When people decided to return to a medieval system of bartering in order to dispose of their unsaleable items...

From my personal experience people don't want to buy full PCs or cases, they want to buy components for their own case, that's why splits are so common.

I've only ever bought one case off the OCUKMM and that's because it was brand new in box and at a ridiculous discount, at the same time as I was after that exact case.

Also depends on the area and the people you attract ;)

Not had many swapsies so far.
