Where has my folder gone?

We run a small server at work & windows 7 on the pc's. Everyone's Document folders are saved on/pointed to the server.

So, 1 person saved some work to a sub-folder in her My Docs on the laptop, but then said it was not there on her main machine. When I checked, there were a few folders on the laptop but not on her main machine - and they said "not synced" under properties...

So, (foolishly by the look of it) I highlighted the folder and said sync....and the folder then just disappeared off the laptop...*poof*...vanished

Why? Where has it gone? and, more importantly is it recoverable?

Just checked on the server, right clicked her folder "No previous versions saved"

I guess the sub-folder has gone then...

It was only this morning we were saying that we should set a backup of the server...

Why on earth did it delete it anyway when I just asked it to sync?
