I have 60GB hdd in my macbook.
Now i have a bit of spare time i thought id try to tidy it up and free some space since i have less than 10GB free.
However I can't seem to find what is taking up all the space.
I have:
Music - 17 GB
Documents - 1 GB
Photos - 5 GB
Applications - 5 GB max
Free space - 11 GB

Total - 39 GB
Capacity 55 GB

Is this right? OSX install takes up around 15 GB?

just a word of warning about monolingual - do NOT remove the system architectures!!! I did this and had to do a complete archive and install to reset back to proper working order.

Also make sure you read the top of the app properly and actually don't end up removing English from a few apps! :(

thanks, using monolingual now.
Lol i nearly did same mistake WotDa mentioned.

I remember when you did that, good times ;)

If you're that concerned just buy another HDD and slide it in to the Macbook ;)

If you haven't already, try Xslimmer.

.. be nicer if it was free but you can't moan at the $11 activation!

just tested XSlimmer out to see if it was worth the $11.95.

Mail.app launched pretty quick anyway, this just saved 41mb on it and it launches instantly now, definitely buying it, good suggestion :D

I used to use delocalizer to get rid of the extra crap, but now I just reinstall from scratch whenever I get a new mac.. the default install is terribly bloated.

If you want "Everything out of the box" - Apple have done a good job but inturn, it takes up quite abit of space.

The difference between Apple "Bloatware" and most PC "Bloatware" is one might find Garageband, iMovie, iWeb, (tons of) language support e.t.c. useless and takes up space whilst PC gives you AOL Free trial and the likes.

To be honest, I much prefer apple in terms of extras I get over competative applications in PC - like Realplayer taking over the system, trying to be everything. If I don't like it, just drag and drop (most of) it away whilst on PC, it takes a lot more effort to uninstall them away.

But that's my view anyway.
