Hi all,

I was wondering what are your predictions on the future of computing? What hardware/software is being developing at the moment that you believe shows promise in the world of computing?

I think that in the not too distant future, everything will be stored/done on your mobile phone and that will act as a computer for everything, much like a laptop can now.

So obviously you can wirelessly link it up to a screen/keyboard/mouse, etc. Maybe you won't even have to take it out of your pocket.

This from the guy with the Steve Jobs sig. Big surprise.

It's a valid point, and you'd certainly understand it if you owned a tablet. Most of my life is run by my tablet, and I can do Internet browsing, and work off of my tablet. I can do everything the average computer user uses their computer for on my tablet..... Completely replaced my laptop in seconds.... What's more with the boom of app games recently, for your casual gamer, you'll see more people using them for gaming as well. I'm pretty sure app games completely demolished sales of ds/psp/ other portable gaming device sales last year....

I found completely the opposite. Bought a HP touchpad in the frenzy, never used it because laptops and pc can do everything better.

Sold it...for a profit :D:p

But i agree that once tablets become more powerful and run a full proper operating system ( windows 8 is coming too tablets next year isnt it?) then they will be great.

To be fair I think it's rather guaranteed this is the way it's going. Businesses are pushing mobile computing (Tablets/laptops) e.t.c.

This Christmas I think tablet devices are the biggest present I know that's been purchased. I have had about 30 people ask me about these devices just in the last 4 weeks running to christmas. They if not all have purchased an iPad 2.

SoC's & embedded devices in general. More and more inter-connectivity & cloud processing/storage. Basically doing back towards the old days of terminals.

At least I hope so, being an embedded C/C++ engineer :p.

What relevance has this got to do with anything?

@ OP, smaller, handheld devices seems to be where it's going. More "Jack of all trades master of none" types.

I can't see desktop types being replaced for a long time.
