Where, Other than steam to play

I can't see any actual problem with Steam's dominance of the PC gaming marketplace. it's a decent platform, offering games of good prices, codes for which can even be bought cheaper elsewhere.

Better than having a different platform for every developer. Or competing multi-dev platforms where there are exclusive third-party games.

My major problem (surprisingly not about steam support :p) is that you're tied to their servers.
If their servers go down, you're screwed.

When I played Magicka: Wizard Wars (R.I.P.) the game ran on its own servers, but through steam client.
Any time steam servers went down (far too often...) or even just for maintenance, that meant we all got booted from the game too :(

Oh & as for the different platform for every developer, that's starting. gog & it's (crappy) galaxy, Bethesda is using its own client too now (seriously? I only have QC installed yet it auto resets to Skyrim highlighted instead or one of the others, not the one I have installed...)
