Well all I have picked so far is the case! I have not built an OC rig for about 18 months and tech moves on so fast... you get left behind

Like this case:

This case isn't set in stone.... but I quite like the style.

So where do I go from here? Suggestions for a good motherboard would probably be a good starting point!
If someone can point me in that direction, I can probably get going.

How about this?

Budget... around £1500 if possible. That needs to include a monitor which would preferably (but not exclusively) be a 28"

Used for light video editing, bit of gaming and general use. Would be great to get into some harder core gaming (or at least have the ability).

i7 processor - Skylake?
Graphics... well I want a decent Nvidia I think. 980ti? This is where tech just flys away into the distance and I am left standing
16gb menory at least
256gb ssd for operating system and a second 3 or 4TB 7200rpm drive for storage.
Win 10 64 bit home edition OS
Blu-ray optical drive
DVD burner (possibly combined with the above?)
Sound card - assume the motherboard will have basic sound facilities. If not... a basic one will do.
I assume the motherboard will have WiFi (if not... I need that as well)

As for cooling... welcome suggestions (Depends on the MB regarding the main cooler). I usually pile a load of fans in the case.
Water cooling would be great, but possibly not within my budget.

I will start researching parts... but it doesn't take long to fall behind the curve

Short answer...is no. :)
The LGA1151 cooler mounting spacing is the same as LGA 1150 spacing... so you have the option of many highly capable air cooler solutions too.

I am sure there are many other more experienced people around who can, and will, advise some appropriate Air Cooling hardware, should you choose to go the Air Cooling route. :)

Thanks... wondered why I could not find an air cooler for the LGA1151
Budget wise (which is already out the window)... water cooling isn't really needed.
I think £1500 is tight for the PC itself now.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,467.76
(includes shipping: £15.90)

Mobo/cpu/ram bundle can easily be lowered and more funds can be made available. 1500 is more than ample to get you started with.

390 is known to draw quite a bit of power and runs a a bit hot compared to gtx 980.

You can always swap it for a gtx 970, and save yourself 50£ but you will loose some performance. Also something to bare in mind, with 390x you can go freesync 144hz.

Regards

Ok. Spent a little while playing around.... Over budget, but I can still tweak it.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,803.74
(includes shipping: £28.02)

Is a Skylake processor worth the extra few pounds?

I know I have listed the processor, MB, cooler and memory seperately... perhaps an overclocked package will be better.

I like Nvidia cards... so the 980 would be nice.
Also got a Gigabyte MB in my wifes gaming rig and its been very good.

Anyone see any blatent issues?

Oh.... and is there no way to save your basket on the OC site?

A few points for you to consider;

1. GTX 980 is not worth the extra over a 970, if you're going 980ti then fair enough.
2. A freesync monitor is pointless with a Nvidia video card. You need to be looking at GSync monitors.
3. Skylake is too expensive for what it is. If you're going to spend that much money on motherboard, CPU and RAM then you'd be better off going down the X99 route and a six core processor like the 5820K.

A 750 watt psu is overkill a platinum 650 watt superflower or evega would be better unless you intend to go crossfire. Its a very good build though.

I'd definitely recommend a 750w if you plan on using the 390x, as it draws a little bit over 400w at full power.

How often do you use dvs/cd drive now days? Most is digital. If you need one, I'd buy external. H440 is definitely a good choice or Fractal design define S

If you plan gaming on wireless, good luck :P. Just draw a cable. You'll be happier longterm for sure
