Hmm, seems everyone has them, but I can't find one (I need one today, and somewhere in Liverpool). Basically I'm fitting a dump valve and there's just not enough room with the standard air box and piping, so I might as well get a cone filter. But would you believe it I can't actually find anywhere that sells them. Even halfrauds has come up blank. :( . Rant.

Any suggestions?.

I just realised that in the title I pondered where to buy "an" cone filter. How retarded..

I found one though hehe, cheers Liverpool-Lad, I went over to Merseyspeed and might well order some samco hoses over the next week. The guy there really knows his stuff.

What eva u do dont get an open cone

treat your self to a BMC or summit like that.. or u might aswell not bother cuz u will loose performance

Whether you "loose" performance or not depends entirely on the car.

Please still the TI... PLEAASE!!!

Going away from the standard airbox on one of these makes a nice new noise ;)

You will probably find the reason why Lopez said it depends on the car is because different cars have their air box's in different places. Thus depending whether heatsoak is a problem or not. So really it isn't between right and wrong, instead it is between right and right.

Not to mention using a cold air box/shield.

Oops, slow reply (was forced into working).. Yup I've still got my Ti, turns out my gearbox wasn't knackered (apparently one of the quietest Ti boxes that cableguys heard - RT user and general rover badass), I just had some seriously loose engine mounts. Just a driveshaft (or 2), diff seals and short shift kit to go now :P.

The filter that I bought was a shielded cone filter, pointing down to the front/bottom of the battery, but I'll be moving the battery in a few weeks in favor of a nice shield for the filter and a cold air feed. It shouldn't be too difficult to get a decent feed in, it's pretty much next to the original Ti cold air intake bit, and the cone only takes air from a hole in the end.

Anyway, cone filter, chavvy dump valve and a bit more boost and she's pulling like a bizzatch (had a look at the turbo while everything was off and it's in great nick hehe), had a play with a souped up gt4 last night (st185?) and there was very little in it up to 130 and then we backed off. Overall for £80 the mods feel worth it, coupled with the bit of extra boost I can feel the difference, not great, but from 4.5-7k there's more of a pull.

Next stop get the remaining bits fixed, short shift kit, and then start looking into an uprated gearbox and t28 turbo.

Edit, got to love the cheapness of turbo mods :P.

That's great news :) Glad to hear she's in good shape and that she's a keeper. Do you have a GBE fitted?

I've been looking at Ti's recently... the Mk2s with colour coded bump strips and mirrors just look so good. Need to tell myself no... got another 10 months MOT left on the 220 so am going to keep that until the MOT runs out and then decide what to do.

Driveshafts can be had for peanuts. I had a new shaft with brand new CV joints fitted for £100 for the MOT. What's up with yours?

haahhahaha

i wouldn't even bother with trying to beat lopéz :p

you won't always get heatsoak, and you will be more likely to see gains on forced induction cars.

Although a panel filter + stock airbox is probably the best option (gained me 10hp on my celica)

Here's some piccies:

EDIT: The GTI-R badge was a joke as I was attending a Manchester motors meet ages ago, it's since gone lol.

Basically the inner CV joint is gone/going on one side and there's an odd noise that cableguy reckons could be driveshaft related. Might as well do them anyway, one less think to go snap :P.

Just been out for a spin and it's reading 0.72 bar, so about 10.5psi (varies a little though because the gauge is crap) I'll up that to 11.5-12psi when I get a more accurate gauge now that the engine mounts are sorted (12 being a relatively safe max where standard Ti pistons are concerned apparently). Oh that's with a GBE valve yes.

Yeah AGW, I really don't think you would regret it so long as you find a nice one, they're a really nice car by all accounts, quite well put together, based on the accord which isn't too bad. A touch of class and a kick in the arse from the turbo lump :P, couldn't ask for more for the money.

 Yours looks mint!

Been a while since I last saw it, but I can't remember it looking like that.

I'm impressed

Looking at the pics of the Coupe, I'm suprised it was written off. Damage didn't look that bad.
