Where to buy an cone filter?.

 Yours looks mint!

Been a while since I last saw it, but I can't remember it looking like that.

I'm impressed

Looking at the pics of the Coupe, I'm suprised it was written off. Damage didn't look that bad.

I know, I was quite surprised too. Tesco gave me nearly £2000 for it though, so I wasn't complaining.. I miss that car really, it had rock hard suspension and sent you firmly to the back of your seat hehe, not great on Liverpool roads, but fun all the same.

As for the Ti, since you saw it (it was a bit dirty then tbh, and the interior was full of crisp and fag packets I've no doubt lol) I had it detailed, then scratched it by accident and went over the whole car with various cleaning products (I think I made a thread about it at the time) and overall it looks quite good paint wise, no rust/dents etc, just a few small scratches/rubs but nothing to write home about. The interior is pretty much mint, leathers not cracked or worn, I just need to find an original gearstick and the wood bit around it as I cracked mine a while ago, shouldn't be more than a few quid from RT. The engine is really strong, probably the best part of the car really, I had to buy a new engine a while ago due to HGF and subsequent engine melt-down (entirely my own fault, spirited motorway journeys after forgetting to put the water cap back on is a big no-no) and managed to find a 65k miler from a late Ti. Runs quite nicely. All in all it will have cost me a lot more than the car is worth to keep it in decent nick, but I like it, it's sort of a decent compromise between the coupe I had and something too boat like (Vittesse  ).

When they run 12psi they do go rather well indeed ;) As a side note AGW - my friends about to order a full suspension kit for his Ti, he doesn't think just the springs is acceptable. Your Ti looks mint mate, very nice indeed :D

Like I said - it all depends on the car. Where the cone will be situated, how well insulated it is from the heat of the engine, whether or not that particular engine suffers badly from heat soak (most N/A cars need to be running incredibly hot to suffer from any real heat soak issues)

You can't just say "CONE FILTERS ARE BAD" and leave it at that, because it isn't true.

Suspension will also come. I've driven a Ti with a coilover set-up and I thought it was pretty good, a vast improvement over the original suspension set-up. I've seen a few custom made Tein kits (nearly new) going for circa £450, which seems reasonable, but quite an investment really.

That's not bad for a Tein setup!

I wonder if it's as flat through the bends as DreX's old RX7  :D

Those were 'near bottom of range' packages though, but still, not bad lol. A nice set of hard chopped springs would see it flat through the bends ;) .

hi sorry to hijack but agw what is your car? I think it looks really cool.

hehe, thanks :)

It's a 220 GSi with a few mods... suspension, exhaust and 16" Hairpin alloys from the MG range.

I'm changing the wheels for the 17" MG Straights soon (multispoke) so whether it'll look as good (the Hairpins look sweet from most angles, the Straights are quite a plain wheel) we'll have to see.

And these are the wheels I'm getting...

agw this is what, set of alloys 3?

Fix the bodywork already! :p

:D

I'm keeping my options open Fox. If a better car comes along, I'll snap it up. If I still haven't found a good one by the Summer, I'll get mine sorted and go ahead with my original plan.

There've been a few 220 and 420 Turbo's popping up quite recently, so who knows... ;)

But I'm doing well... I haven't spent any serious money on the car in a while and have been treating myself to all kinds of fancy electrical gear instead. I'll be occupied with all this for a while and can actually start to save up a decent amount of money.

The 2 litre engines don't have HGF as such, they just suffer an oil weep from the front of the block on original gaskets.

Some weep very badly, some not at all... a 420 Turbo I test drove managed to dispose of a vast quantity of its oil after I'd parked it up from the test drive :( The weeping can be fixed by changing to a triple layer 'Klinger' gasket, which has a reinforced oil way.

It's VERY uncommon for a T-series (the 2 litres) to suffer head gasket failure unless it's overheated or something.

The 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 K-series engines are the ones with head gasket issues. It's not an actual fault with the head gasket itself, it's more to do with the way the engine warms up and cools down... the aluminium head moves slightly and eventually wears away the sealant on the gasket, causing it to fail.

Mine was done before I bought it... twice in fact.

The guy before me had it done the day after he bought it. The temp gauge wasn't working which had meant that the car had probably overheated at some point and the driver not noticed.

He then had to have it re-done a few months later as it wasn't done properly the first time.

Been fantastic ever since though.

Insurance... it's group 13, I'm currently paying £1150 TPFT which isn't too bad considering I've got no NCB. Was more last year when I did have 2 years NCB.

Performance wise... I've recorded a 0-60 in 8.5 seconds GPS. It can keep on going until around 120 on the clock, by which time I get bored and back off. It's the midrange torque that I like though. Coming from a 214, this car felt ******* stupidly quick.

Put your foot down in 2nd or 3rd gear at 2000rpm and it picks up instantly. Needs a turbo now as I'm used to the power :(

ah I see, have you replaced the HG on yours then? whats the insurance and performance like on it?
With 1 years license, 1 years ncb and at 21 im looking at around £850 if i choose to renew TPFT.

My engine seems to be ******* from every gasket possible at the moment, causes the clutch to slip sometimes too from oil on the plates i think

Is fine from day to day usually, bit of a thirsty engine to run even if you drive it economically, ive not seen 300 to a tank yet. :(
