Where to buy engagement rings?

I'm looking for a single diamond at least 3 carats, preferably more as the g/f has insisted that it she'll settle for nothing less !

Gold digger tbh :p

Yikes, cheers Rotty. F/VS2 would definitely suffice - size not quality is what she's after. Is there a noticeable difference between ideal and premium cuts? Obviously I'm going to see it in the flesh before I buy but just interested.

Well you'd think so but apparently if I think she's worth less than a 3 carat diamond then I don't value her highly enough. Seriously it has to be an "obscenely" large diamond.

You must be joking? She sounds like an utter nightmare. What a weird woman, sounds like the women off "Goldplated" if anyone is watching that.

You're better off flying to Dubai, buying the stone(s) and having the ring made for you.

Plus you get a nice flash holiday to show how much you love her.

No offence, but that sounds ridiculous.

Hatton Gardens!!!!

You will get the best price there, I got mine from there and many friends have purchased from there also!!!

Don't forget to hagle though ;)

Does the idea of spending a years salary on a ring not terrify you?
The norm is a month, to two months salary!!

If your girlfriend truly wants to get engadged, it wont matter what ring you get her but if you have that sort of cash to burn then good luck to you, no doubt you will get a nice ring for that sort of money!

Find a local independant and get them to pick a diamond and make it for you.

Granted it's not 3.5ct :( but I had a .5ct platinum ring made up that was cheaper than going to some naff high street place and buying something similar. Plus this one is individual as I got to choose how I wanted it to look.

I was in Hatton Garden last week and it's definately the place to go, but 3 carats is huge. You are supposed to spend a month's salary on the engagement ring, not a year, so it's outrageous. You should tell her that size isn't everythign and that you should set the budget and go for quality. Anyhow, a stone that big will surely get people saying that it's fake as hardly anyone wears something that big.

Try www.nicholasjames.com for some amazing stuff - very modern and well made. They have a range of fabulous engagement rings that are an unusual shape so that the wedding band is made to fit around it. Lovely stuff for men too. I have ordered a necklace from them.

Also try www.cooldiamonds.com as they have some original designer stuff.

I'd get her to go with you to Hatton Garden and try on various rings. My wife's ring (feel free to snigger at the back) is 0.75 carat because that's what looked right on her finger.

Exactly my fiancée's (still feels weird saying that) one is 0.65ct total, and the centre stone is 'only 0.35ct, and its still huge. Any bigger and it would be too big.

3ct is 'that's no moon' kinda huge.

Tell her if she wants to marry you she'll get what she's ****ing given.

agreed!

i really cant believe you're being serious about her saying if its not 3ct then you dont appreciate her enough, if i was told that the first thing i'd do is tell her to give back the keys and that her bags would be waiting in the tool shed!

i thought engagement was traditionally around 1, and up to 4 months salary..

The I brought my ex-girlfriend a 3ct one, along with a bag of potatoes and a nice leek too!!

Hence why she is now my ex!! ;)

No offence intended, but if you are genuinely interested in diamonds, this is not the website to be posting to - and make sure you are aware of all of the various bits before buying something like that.

At the very minimum, the 4 C's (cut, clarity, carat and colour), bearing in mind that it's all a trade off between each of those. It is possible to get a 3.5ct stone for not a huge amount relatively (say 10K), but it'll be a yellowish stone, with lousy cut (not very sparkly) and badly striated in terms of imperfections. I wouldn't even want to think how much a good 3.5ct stone would cost :D

I'd guess that any woman demanding a 3.5ct diamond is likely to make a pretty lousy wife.

Just a thought.

How long you been with her?
