I'll be looking to move after Christmas and I'm looking at lots of different areas. I was wondering if anyone could perhaps give me some ideas for areas to look for. I'll be renting BTW.

Criteria:

Ideally less than £1500 pcm
Able to get to Westminster within an hour
No further North/East than Junction 19 of the M25
No further South/East than Junction 9 of the M25
Parking for 2 cars (including garage)
Min 2 bed house, preferably semi detached
FTTC/FTTP enabled

I'd rather not live in a dive, I would prefer a nice area. I've had all sorts suggested to me so far but nothing seems to jump out at me.

What's Wimbledon like? I've thought of anything on the line that goes from say Woking into Waterloo then obviously walk from there.

Hmm, Edgware, Enfield or Barnet then? I used to live in Enfield - Winchmore Hill and Grange Park. Might be tough to get to Westminster in an hour though. More recently I lived in Elmer's End (nr Bromley) which was a dead simple commute to Charing Cross (45 minutes) via London Bridge, which is easy Jubilee Line access to Westminster.

Only suggesting places I've personally lived, mind. I'm sure you've already looked at plenty of other places!

I used to commute in from Farnborough a bit further out but on the m3 with a main line station into Waterloo. Travel time was less than an hour.

The outskirts of North London to Westminster is a nightmare commute since it'll involve a decent train ride to St Pancras/Euston/Kings Cross and then a tube across. Much better getting a train to Waterloo and walking.

48 minutes on the train, that's do-able. Problem is that I'd have get to the train station as from what I know from Farnborough, all the housing is miles away.

Wimbledon is nice matey, one of the few nice areas left around here :).

Wimbledon Village (you won't get a flat here as it's £££) is beautiful and has lots of little cafes / restaurants and bars.

I'm in Leatherhead which is only 45min from Waterloo on the train. Lots of stops on the line in with nice places to live. Ashtead is very nice.

I have thought about Leatherhead/Epsom area, I like it round there. Can you get FTTC in that area? I'd rather avoid going back to normal ADSL if possible.

Great area, 4 stops from Westminster and within budget.

I own a flat not too far from here it's within walking distance from tower bridge, massive tesco around here and easy access to Greenwhich and central London.

Too far east mate, also not ideal for two cars, I want to avoid congestion charging or having to drive anywhere near central London.

Loads of housing with walking distance I lived a 10 min walk from the station on Westmeath road. You get a great view of the air show for free too.

Cheers, gives me another option. Problem is the GF wants to live closer to London and I want to live as far away as possible. :D
