Looking to take a weekend break in a couple of weeks and after some recommendations of places to stay in Edinburgh. Location's more important than luxury, so something cheap and cheerful like a friendly B&B would be perfect.

We'll be flying in so decent connections to there a bonus.

Any recommendations appreciated :).

The airport bus will take you slap bang into the middle of edinburgh (edinburgh waverly final stop) for 6quid return so getting into civilisation will be straightforward. What sort of budget were you looking at for the accommodation? Unfortunately with Edinburgh there are a lot of places that will charge the earth even if the place is fairly crap. Think there was the Braveheart B&B which i stayed in at 50quid a night which wasn't very nice in particular and there was another one on George Street (i think) which was a bit cheaper but not that impressive either. Last time i looked the Holiday Inn (quite central) was around 85quid a night. Been stung in the Radisson during festival fortnight in august.....220quid a night (up from around 120)

I know there are a few B&Bs for around 35quid a night although they tend to be slightly further out from the centre. Without checking which bus routes go where a taxi would be your best bet. All day travel tickets on buses cost 3quid i think which aint too bad though.

Thanks for the info re: bus etc. As for budget, cheap as chips. We spend limited time in hotels so we'd rather spend the money on food, drink and sights than somewhere where we only spend 1 waking hour a day.

Stayed in B&B's on Costorphine Rd (sp?) when I've been up there, and they've been fine. (thats the road out to Murrayfield and the Airport). About a 15 min walk into town, or a couple of quid in a taxi.

+1 for Costorphine, Its pretty much where i stay and there is lots of B&B's here. Road Leads straight into Town aswell.

I stayed at the Jury's Inn, got a really good deal on lastminute or somewhere and it is within easy walking distance of everything in the center including the main bus stop and train station (got the shuttle bus from the airport and walked to hotel). Rooms were acceptable, staff friendly. I didn't use any additional facilities.

Unless my geography is getting confused (I consider pc world to the zoo corstorphin) I wouldn't say thats a 15min walk into town.
Maybe the B&B's around donaldson's college (so west end) or W coates for the OP which google is telling me.
On my side of town, theres the Lady Nairn, which is a 15min bus trip (4,44,124) into town.

Loads of BnBs down Minto St to the south of the city as well, road leads straight along to the Bridges/Mile - 20 minute walk, or there are are good 10 or so bus routes that go along there every few minutes. Seem to start from £30 or so.

I've never stayed in anywhere specific, what with living here, but this seems a reasonable list of options. I think to get any less than £30/night, you're really looking at hostel dorms - these do tend to be very central, but less private, obviously.

Stayed on Fleshmarket Close during the Festival Fringe, was a brilliant spot as you're literally on top of the Royal Mile, but I guess it's dependent upon what you will be doing there and what you want easy access to.

If you're on your toddy, pop down Shandwick Place or Bread Street just off Grassmarket and visit some of their evening entertainment establishments ;)

Just found this place: http://www.metropolitainedinburgh.com/

£160 for 3 nights total en-suite, seems good and decent location. Any reason why it's not? :p

Other option is this: http://www.adriahouse.co.uk/index2.html. Just higher at £180 for non-ensuite and £210 for ensuite.

thats where you want to be! princess street/george street/queen steet three main places for restaurants/bars/clubs etc, all the side streets running through them aswell (hanover, frederick etc)

if your homophobic, then the only reason not to stay at that hotel would be that its right on the edge of the 'pink triangle', which is wear all the gay bars are housed - cant see this being a problem though, just head to bars west to be sure lol

corstorphine area (glasgow road, corstorphine road, st johns road) is the best place for b&b's by far. loads to choose from plus theres loads of buses which head into town along that route (12, 26, 31, 48).

Sorry to thread-jack here, but I’m also going to be looking for somewhere nice to stay – taking my girlfriend to see Bon Jovi in June, looking for two nights stay, but we’d prefer a nice cosy place, maybe in the country side – I don’t mind a drive in :) Budget, maybe £100-150 a night, possibly more (or less) if it’s a nice place.

Currently doing my own research, but if anyone has any tips, I shall check back.

Thank you and sorry OP!

marriot dalmahoy? seems to fit the bill. some pretty nice places in the centre though aswell, including a hilton and a couple apex hotels. I've always fancied a night in the le monde hotel aswell - each room decorated differently based on different countries - quite fancy!
