Where to stay when going to the O2 Arena in London?

Trainpal referral code: 1eb6c436

Gives £3 sign up i think and further discount on tickets.
Thanks, used your referral and it gives a few discounts. Much appreciated :)

So with regard the actual tube then, is that a case of just tapping the contactless and it caps at some point?

I gather rail cards don't benefit us there?

Going through Trainpal will give you the tube tickets too. Don't just put Paddington into the app, put your last tube stop in too, ie Greenwich.

Travelling around once there, there is pay as you go cap, so yes you tap your debit card, or you buy all day travel pass. And yes, you can use your railcard :)

If it's available I'd do the flat definitely, it means not having to worry about the nightmare of the tube when everyone leaves at the same time.
To be fair it’s not really a nightmare as long as you expect the crowd control and being made to wait in a queue afterwards. I’m pretty sure it’s fairly well organised - they do this every day of the week after all. It’s the people with no patience that expect to push past everyone else or force the issue that make it a problem.

Just another tip with 02 when heading back after a concert. If you don't want to queue and wait for the train just take one stop in the other direction to Canning Town and then hop back on so you can grab a seat on the train.

I would disagree with the advice to focus on staying near Waterloo or Paddington to "be central" or "near attractions". I don't mean to sound pedantic, but in London you could stay anywhere and still get to "attractions" within minutes. The tube/rail network will get you where you need to go so just pick what hotel you want, where you want, within reason.

Last time I went to the O2 I stayed at the Hilton (2 trees) in Docklands. they have their own water taxi that takes you across the Thames to Canary Wharf then its only a short tube ride.

Thanks for all the tips

I've booked our train direct from Westbury to paddington for the morning. Will then tube to some where touristy and then head towards the O2 later on the afternoon as it looks like there's a fair bit to see there too.

Ultimately I panicked and booked to stay at the Intercontinental at the O2.

So we can head there from the concert and then get back out and about in the morning for an early evening train home

The Intercontinental is a nice hotel, there's some shopping at the UK but food is very chain restaurant. your best bet would be to head to greenwich itself for food and then taxi back to the hotel/o2. should only cost £10 for the taxi.
