Which 1 TB drive for storage (RAID1)?

As per title really, any suggestions on which 1TB disk would be better for a 2x1 TB RAID1 configuration?

Windows will be running on a 150 GB velociraptor and I need the PC mainly for HD video editing.

Thanks for any help!

Raid 1 looks a lot like a backup, but accidentally deleting things can be more of a risk than drive failure. I'm yet to suffer significant data loss from hardware fault, but I've definitely deleted things by accident. Perhaps nightly backups to the second drive would suit better? Gives you time to catch the error

That aside, if you edit the video on the Raptor and store the results on the hard drive, any will work fine. I like Samsung F1s, but other people don't

I am not sure really if that's the best solution for me. Why is RAID 1 not a back up solution whatsoever?

And any suggestions on HDDs? I read some articles and leaning towards Hitachi but have no idea really!

Because you can delete files by accident, malware can do that, hardware fault can corrupt data in logical level, or for example lightning strike can fry whole computer.
Backup is something which isn't affected by those once it's done.

The main recommendation for RAID1 disks is to pick two of the same size from different manufacturers, preferably similar in performance (throughput, access time) so you don't get bottlenecked by the slower disk. The reason why different disks are recommended is because disks with same make/model/batch have a much higher probability of failing simultaneously. The possibility of this isn't just theoretical, it actually happened to me a few months ago.

So if you are torn between Samsung and Hitachi, the correct thing to do is to get one of each for your RAID1 pair.

The new Hitachi drives are underrated here, I don't know why, maybe the dark cloud of the DeathStars is hanging over them. Still, IMO (and according to reviews) the latest Hitachi 1TB drives are very fast and outperform the F1 on access times, but are slightly slower at streaming data. I don't see many reports of failures, which may be a reflection of the number sold, or might mean they actually are reliable :) Don't use warranty period as a measure of reliability - it's meaningless in terms of that, it's a marketing strategy.
