With my new laptop turning up in a couple days I figured I'd treat myself and swap out one of the normal hard drives in it for an SSD. However, I know absolutely nothing about SSDs and which ones are the best make etc. I was looking for something around 120GB mark but every review I read seems to say go for a different make!

Which ones are generally the fastest and most reliable to go for?

Thanks!

The Samsung 830 seems to be the one to get for great performance/reliability and not spending a fortune.

If you have more to spend, then there are a couple of others that just fly.

Most laptops are still sata II, thus pretty much every drive available will consequently be limited and perform the same.

Also, for the record, at the 120GB mark the Intel drives are both cheaper and faster than the Samsungs/Crucials. They also happen to be the gold standard for reliability...

Mines SATA3 so no worries on that.. I was leaning towards the Samsung ones from my research. I'll probably have another read around in work tomorrow morning before I order!

I had a 830 then changed it to the M4 from my desktop. Speedwise they were the same but the M4 pulls 7-8 watt at idle and the 830 10-11 watt, so left the M4 in..

Both maxed out the sata 3 at 460mbs read...
