My computer is pretty old an naff now (AMD 2500 Barton CPU, Asus A7-something-or-other Nforce mobo, 512mb RAM(!) and 40gb HD) but i could do with some more HD space for storing files (mp3s, videos etc.) aswell as installing games.

I dont want to fanny about installing Windows on my new drive because i dont want to lose all my stuff and what have you so the new drive will simply be for storage. It's definitely an IDE drive aswell, my mobo does not have SATA.

Anyhoo, which is the best one to get? Seagate? Western Digital? Samsung?

Cheers

As its only for storage you dont need to worry about getting the fastest drive, seagate would be my top priority and then WD, however if you want it to be quiet then get the WD or a samsung - whichever is cheapest ;) Dont forget for about £4 more you could get a 250gb IDE drive..

Going down a different route, you could buy a PCI SATA RAID controller card and buy a SATA hdd for future use on a new PC - I have seen one for £12 which requires no drivers! - XFX REVO 64 SPU 3 Port SATA Raid Card

I'd go for WD, I haven't used seagate for years intentionally - they used to be naff at least in my experience.

I have had lots of seagate drives and none have been naff. 2x 7200.6, 2x 7200.7, 1x 7200.8 and 2x 7200.9's and all have been fine.

Thanks for the offer Robbie but i just bought a new one before reading your post. I ended up getting a 250gb WD Caviar.

Thanks for the help.
