Hi, I need a 1TB SATA drive for a new Windows 7 installation.

My motherboard is a gigabyte p35dsl, pretty sure it supports sata 2 and i think sata 3 is backwards compatible so should be ok.

I've narrowed it down to two options:

1)Seagate 7200.12 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB
2)Hitachi 7K1000.c 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB

I'm gonna make it a boot drive but at the same time have a lot of steam games on there.

They both seem around the same spec and same price and both are good reliable makes.

So which 1 is better?

There's not really much point in asking.

Half the responses will be "I've owned loads of Hitachi/Seagate drives and never had a problem".

The other half will be "Every Hitach/Seagate drive I've ever owned died a painful death".

Personally I've never owned either.

I've always used WD or Samsung without any problems ;)

think the F3 is one of the fastes drives on the market, but overall i dont think there is any real difference between any of them.
there will always be people that like/dislike maufacturers due to their own experiences or something they have read, but personally all drives have a chance of failing, just as much as all drives stand a chance of last 10-20 years without problems if treated nicely.

as probably million people already told u, samsung f3 spin, what i have in mine, back it up by ssd or get momentus xt altogether
