Ok,

Going to order a 24 inch today, everybody seems to say the Dell is the best for picture/quality/warranty etc.

But there are two of them and only £13 difference in price.

So which one should I buy

Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey

or

Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey

Basic use of this is normal Windows and games use. Watch the odd downloaded avi/mpg. Don't have or intend to get in the near future a HD-DVD player for the PC.

Cheers

the HC version has a higher colour gamut, so colours are "meant" to be better, but if you look lower down this very forum you'll see it can suffer from severe ghosting. Most are going for the non HC version to avoide the risk - I did.

they are identical pretty much. The HC version is the HighColor edition which offers a wider colour gamut thanks to enhacned W-CCFL backlighting. However, while i'd normally suggest this would make sense to get the updated model, there's currently an issue with the HC version which is showing some odd ghosting issues, so might be safer to go with the regular 2407WFP :)

edit: doh, just beaten to it ;)

Ok, Cheers Guys

Non HC one it is then.

Any idea if it comes with a DVI cable? as I've only got one and was going to keep that to keep my old Samsung 19 inch TFT linked as the second monitor.

Ok,

Thanks for your help everyone.

Ordered the non HC version, to be delivered on Thursday.:D

Wish I could have it tomorrow but wife is going out, selfish person she is.:p

Also added another 2GB mem to the order to support the Vista install I did over the weekend.

Damn you overclockers, why is it all my money seems to end up in your bank account.:D

Have to do is find a nice 1900 * 1200 background now.

As much as the HC is I may still op for it, at least in few months time if they fix the ghosting issue will just get dell to get me the fixed/revised edition ;)

And in the long run the HC will proove better.

Regardless cant go wrong with either version atm.

I just purchased *** non-HC version and I love it :D soo many connections and desktop space. If it's a work tool rather than an entertainment tool it might be worth getting *** HC version, but the standard has been very good at everything I've thrown at it so far (3d work, games, programming and tv/video).

Just wish I had the gfx to drive it native in games :D

[edit]ok that's just lame putting the common type-o of "the" in the blocked words list[/edit]

How does the Samsung 24" compare with the Dell? It's way cheaper after all...

Hi Fat Dog,

I had thought about the Samsung due to the price difference, but from all I'd read the quality of the TFT panel is no where near as good on the current cheap Samsung as on the 2407 Dells.

I was going to wait until the new Samsung appeared as initially Gibbo had priced them in the same region as the Dells, but now they're £200 more expensive and are still on Pre Order.

Dual Link cable included?

Hi,

Slightly off topic, but do either of the Dell monitors include a dual link DVI cable?

Also, is it possible to display the resolution of 1920x1200 via single link DVI and VGA?

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

If no one answers before I'll let you know on Thursday when I set mine up.

My expectation is that it will display the native 1900 * 1200 resolution via a standard single DVI cable.

Supertaff,
Sorry for the thread HiJack but what cooler do you have on that DS4 pls? Yo have a similar setup to what I want.
Let us kmopw what you think of that monitor, cos' it's *** one I want too !!!
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I have a

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-039-TR

with a
Noctua 120mm fan
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-001-NC

It's a great cooler, really reduced my temps, but you need a lot of space for the beast. It also requires you to take out your motherboard from your case so as to put a backing plate below the motherboard that it connects into.

Will post back my views on the 2407 once I get it.

no, just single link cable AFAIK. And yes, full res can be powered at 60Hz using single link DVI cable and GFX card interface

Can anyone tell me if my 2407WFP-HC should only be appearing as a plug and play monitor in device manager? I dont seem to be able to get XP to detect a specific dell driver.

You tried running the disc that came with the screen? Assuming it did of course.

That should contain any drivers the screen would need. :)

Yeah but it wouldnt detect anything on the cd as suitable for some reason. Has now detected the driver downloaded from the dell website though. Strange...
