Hi, I am thinking of getting a 5870 based system, with 3 x 24" (or similar size) monitors, for some widescreen gaming - flight sims mainly, but perhaps a bit of CoD, WoW, etc.

Could anyone suggest 3 good monitors (but as cheap as possible) and any other kit/cables I need to buy in order to do this, and any tips/perceived problems. I will be getting the lot from OCUK, so please suggest only OCUK gear.

TIA

Doesnt only 1 monitor have to have Displayport? Can I use my old Dell 24", buy another cheap Dell 24" and then get a good one with DP? What is the best way to connect them?

Ah well that is a option thought you may want them all matching :)
Well that monitor is a very good choice for your centre screen.
And use other cheap one's accordingly.

And yes only one need to be display port.

How do I connect them all up and what cables do I need?

If I were to buy 3 monitors with Displayport, are all the cables supplied, or do I still need anything else - sorry for the noobyness, I know, Im a girl.

If you match a Dell 2407wfp, a TN 24" Dell and a Dell u2410 it will look laughably bad. They are impossible to match and it will look awful. DO NOT DO IT.

Well you always have to buy your displayport cables seperate.
And usually a DP monitor will also have a DVI/HDMI connection.
So DVI >< DVI / HDMI >< DP.

I've just invested in 3x Dell p2210 myself :) Waiting for delivery atm..
Not the best monitors but they'll be reet for the price!

i have a 2407 WFP A04 and 2 2408 WFP A01, the 2408 have displayports

i use DVI wit hthe 2407 Middle and the 2408 on the left and displayport on the 2408 on the right.

I have tried eyefinity but in all honesty try it before you spend so much money on monitors. I still play games without eyefinity tbh the only game that i think looked good on eyefinity was World Of warcraft the others i tried i would need another 5870 to work properly.

If they are the first cheap TN panels with displayport the eyefinity users will be all over em. well done dell

I reckon OCUK (if they havent done already) have a 3 x 24" monitor/eyfinity setup on site (and a video of it), so cutomers that live within distance can have a look in the flesh... :)

dell do not do a TN panel with displayport i dont think.

Only there top Ultrasharp 24" screens the 2408WFP and the new IPS panel screen have them. Could be wrong tho will have a looky.

Samsung SM2443BW x 3 = £750. (these are recommended by a few people at WSGF as they are relatively low cost and have small bezels - I have one and am very happy with it).

1 x DVI-Displayport *active* adapter = ~£100.

Total ex. gfx card = £850. (72" @ 5760 x 1200 res)

Alternatively:

3 x Dell P2310H = ~£600

1 x DP cable = £25

Total ex. gfx card = £625 (69" @ 5760 x 1080 res)

Well, Dell just brought these out: http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=294345

There's your TN + DisplayPort combo ;)

Your ****ing kidding me, i just bought the 3 22" versions for the same price last week....

I guess having 16:10 is plus.......

Cant see anything between these two bar the 23" seems to have a better stand..

Having 1920x1080 should be better then 1680 x 1050

Plus HD movies should look much better as they be displayed DOT by DOT on a 1920x1080 monitor
Plus there would be much more support by items (E.G Consoles,Blu-ray players, upscaling DVD players etc) for 1080p res..

Well yer but i have a HD tv to watch movies etc why would i use my computer? :)
Plus i'd rather have 16:10 for more vertical height..And i don't see why movies would look better? Not as if there filmed in 16:9.

And for consoles, i dont touch them.
