I too can only assume that people stating "its easy" aren't actually trying to buy a 3080. There is massive difference between a Discord ping, and actually being able to buy the card from the ping. 99% of the time a bot has grabbed the cards before you've even heard the ping.

The idea that stock is sometimes available for 20mins comes from a certain retailers basket system, where the green add to basket button remains until all cards are completely through the checkout. The button is there, but if you try to buy the card you'll just go into a 150 attempt pattern in the unlikely event someone quits before completion and a card comes available again. I've been there within the first minute 4 times and attempted to buy a suprim x and a ftw3, and it's been the same every time.

As for the other place with lots of stores, the bots are just too fast, and many of the alerts are actually false. There are a couple of retailers that sell cards well in excess of £900 where you sometimes have a few mins max. That said I did see 6800, 6800xt and 6900xt sit for hours on Friday.

Part alerts is good for one thing - FE alerts. If you can be there when they drop FE's at least your in with a chance - especially 3070/3090s. 3080's are a bit of a lottery. The other discord channel is a joke now. The one guy that was responsible for most of the drops is rarely online anymore, and its mostly just people talking about Ryzens and posting pics of their builds.

I have just managed to grab a RX 6800 XT from those alerts, should be delivered tomorrow.
The first vanished from my basket as I was about to pay but went back to the place and another popped up and snagged that one.

I suppose it is about being at the right place at exactly at the right time and if you are prepared to be more than flexible with your pricing above what MRRP is supposedly set for any of todays generation of cards, and can afford to, then you might just get lucky.

I did see a 3080 and a "few" 3070's on Friday of last week. But price and deliberation got the better of me. A 6800 was in my basket for some time, but I wanted the XT.

I've had the same issues trying to get hold of a 3080. I would prefer a Founders Edition but they are even more rarer than hens teeth. I've had discord alerts from 2 or 3 places but never got close to being quick enough. I found the quickest way to react is on PC and not mobile and I have reacted in seconds after the alert and still too late.

At this point I am just resigned to the fact that I won't get a 3080 and if one comes along then I'll buy but I'm certainly not getting any 3080 that I wouldn't have bought if they were readily available.

The Scalpers are selling the FE 3080 for well over a grand on FB marketplace and I just hope the supply improves and they get stuck with them, why buy then sell straight away on FB? It's easy, you scalp!

I think that it might be because I'm behind a VPN but where they had the 6800XT at the time of buying seconds were lost due to needing to get through their CAPTCHA thing - damn got the "boats" wrong the first attempt :D
The FE edition of a 3080 - good luck indeed with that. That was on my list at one time.
A very different way of shopping for sure and hopefully the 6800XT should be a decent card, it has been despatched for tomorrows delivery now.
PC yup over mobile, can't be there all the time tho..!

3080 FE stock just come and gone within seconds. One dude on Twitter said he managed to place an order.

After hearing comments from others, I was very pleased with myself for ace-ing the boats... alas, it was all for nothing.
