So if given a choice between these three, which would you choose?

Synology DS413 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-038-SY&groupid=46&catid=2125&subcat=2127

QNAP TS-421 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-037-QN&groupid=46&catid=2125&subcat=2126

Purpose is to backup all my photo's, and also act as a hub for all my films etc to stream to HTPC. Looking at fitting 4TB drives.

I'm currently reviewing a ts421 and it is a nice bit of kit. Performance wise it is more in line with a DS413j. Of those three I would probably go for the 413 myself. Has the most polished os and mobile apps. Also it brings a dual core processor and good performance.

Double check but I am pretty sure there is a SABnzb package (if it doesn't then synocommunitydotcom has one). Their own download station app also handles nzb's.

Cool.

Is it easy expans storage in there. So if I got 4x3TB drives now, then in a few years upgrade to 4TB or larger, could I do a basic disk swap?

Yes, there is a procedure and it is easily done.

SHR, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6 types support data redundancy. If your volume or Disk Group uses one of these RAID types, you can easily expand capacity by replacing smaller hard disks with larger ones. When expanding these volume types, you must be careful to replace all hard disks one-by-one. After replacing one hard disk, you must repair the volume or Disk Group before replacing the next one. For RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6, volume capacity will expand once all hard disks have been replaced.
