Id definately go for the Gainward, has double the memory than the others for only few pounds extra, will perform better at high resolutions and newer games that require a lot of video ram (e.g. GTA4, Crysis etc...), it will be more future proof than the others and im sure it will overclock just as good, gainward are not bad at all :)

Have a look here for product info, look nicer than the rest and also i read somewhere that HIS cooler using Arctic Cooling

HIS 4850 IceQ Turbo

I had the 4670 version of that and really happy, when i bought 4870, i was waiting for HIS to release the IceQ Turbo version and when i finally bought mine, a few weeks later they announced it :(

not really on 19", but if you change monitors then it will be,

you may as well buy the cheapest 4850, no point in spending that much for OCed 4850, then it makes more sense to get a 4870 coz there will be a much bigger boost in graphics.

the cheapest 4850 anyway should be overclockable

Would get the gainward as its not that much more for 1gb memory. Also its pre-overclocked to 700mhz and in one review they managed to push it up to 770mhz with no modifications so performance would be close to a 4870.

I would have gone for the HIS especially since the IceQ 4 cooling system is quite good, but for those prices, the Gainward definately especially for the 1GB memory even if it is overkill for a 19" monitor.

I have a 4830 512MB card and for a gimped 4850 (4830 is about 20% less performance), it still is able to handle 1920x1200 resolution gaming fine. Obviously you will have to change some graphics settings or not use high AA/AF, but if this is certainly capable, then the 4850 will have no problems if you were to move to a bigger monitor.

No Idea on the Gainward's RMA process but as for acoustics, you can always change the fan speed by the ATi Catalyst Control Center.

I want be getting a new monitor till late this year. So I will be wasting my money getting a 4870 surely??

Would you recommend the Gainward or just the standard sapphire??

Just to confuse things, seems the Asus cards are now coming with the 'Glaciator' cooler which was previously only on the 1gb model. I've just got one (not from OCUK) and it's a really good cooler.
Anyway, they're all basically similar, maybe just get the cheapest/ go for warranty.

If i went for the gainward would mean most likely going for a e4200.

But with the standard Sapphire i would be able to possibly get a e7400

How much did your asus 4850 'Glaciator' cooler cost??

What about E7200 and the gainward?

Might bring me little over budget. Would the extra be worth it?

Wooo found that for £70 that is very tempting (cant find it at OcUk)

how about

E7200
Gainward
Lian li PC-7B or NZXT alpha classic
4 GB OCZ 6400 DRRII
500GB Samsung F1
Windows 64bit Home
Tuniq tower

(got a OCZ gameXstream 600 w PSU)

That a nice system

btw this is my first build and attempt at Overclocking.
