Hiya Fellas,

I've been away from the PC scene for a while and things have stormed way ahead without me. So, I like to know more about graphic cards, particularly the ATI 4870x2 2Gb variety...

Are there much difference in terms of performance, build quality and reliability when you compare the various brands on offer? I've seen loads of reviews on various sites comparing different boards with different processors, but how about the same board but different manufacturer or brand? Or is it down to personal taste?

Forgetting money and costs for a moment and just think about the cards raw performance. Which would be your god?

They are all the same card, just with different warranties, coolers and software, this is how they justify different prices.

I got a bargain basement PowerColor 4870X2, whacked a water cooling loop on it and havent looked back.

4870X2 = win. There really isn't anything else worth recommending until the GeForce GTX295 launches next month.

There is only one non-reference X2, made by Palit/Gainward.

If you are thinking about selling it later on within a year, go for one with the longer warranty.

If you want the fastest then go for the Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 "Rampage GLH" or the ASUS 4870X2 TOP both are factory overclocked cards. But will cost you an arm and a leg, maybe 2.

Hi danielanthony, which block did you use on your PowerColor 4870X2?

Not worth the cost. One standard 4870X2 is fast enough for anything you will throw at it.

You might be able to find a palit one possibly, they are the same as the gainward(same company) but they tend to be a lot cheaper. If they are too expensive , just get the cheapest one, they're all the same.

I agree the standard 4870X2 are fast enough, but some people still want to go faster. These card are the best for raw performance only costing £35 - £25 more than the standard one (Gainward) on special offer for this week only!!

If I was buying one now I would go the standard Asus ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 with the 3yr Warranty.
