I have decided on the sweet spot of a 640gb HDD. The drives i am lookin at are...

- samsung spinpoint f1 640gb
- western digital se16 640gb
- And do segate do a barracuda 7200.11 in 640gb capacity ?? If so then this aswell

are all of these twin 320gb platter configurations ? want this for the increased density.

Can anyone recomend which one i should get and why ?

I'm happy with my WD SE16, good upgrade from the Maxtor DM17 I had. Posted a bench in Raid0 but in real world use they load up maps in COD4 rapidly and are quite in operation and are cheaper than the samsungs offering. Depending on which review you read there is not much difference in speed between the two.

Im very happy with the samsung its the quietest drive ive owned as well ( out of maxtors, seagates, wd)

I picked the WD in the end due to it being exactly the same in nearly every speed test, it's a WD and it's cheaper.

I was a bit disappointed when I first got the drive due to high access times (15.7-16.8ms) but after turning off the quiet feature (Still inaudible) the access times are now 12.8-12.1ms with average read of 90-94MB's

Great drives :D

As I said before... ;)

To get the "quietness" program, you must go to a website, then burn it to disc and then boot to the disc to run the prog. That then allows you to disable the quiet feature of the WD drives, get it here

My personal stats:

Before AAM (quiet mode) was turned off:

After AAM turned off:

I think mine has AAM turned off by default as I get 12.2ms seek and 94.8MB/s average (HD Tune), and thats with running in RAID 1 too!
