Which 650w?

literally 1/3 of the price for 98% of the performance.

Used quite literally a stack of these PSU, they are great, other than the daft EPS cable. Not sure how you can do better in the ~£50-60 mark anywhere with a 10-year warranty. :)

EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze BQ can be had for £ 69.98 free delivery, perfectly good PSU now the 750W Core Reactors have sold out.

I'm not familiar with them, I was simply drawing a comparison between an incredibly expensive platinum 650w and what's considered a more more normal price point for more powerful yet still high quality PSUs.
Core reactor are the equivalent to the Corsair RM series. Also manufactured by CWT...hence the equivalent 10 year warranty.

Which was my initial point. £170 650w platinum psu, versus a £52 650w gold PSU that provides 98% of the performance at less than 1/3 of the price.

Except they are all sold out now and unlikely to get restocked.
Well they weren't when I posted my last comment 9 days ago. Until someone decided to quote my post 9 days later...
And definitely not when I first posted over 2 weeks ago. Which then leads to the second point...why are we not letting this thread die? It's already served it's useful purpose.

My point is that you're comparing the price of a platinum PSU to a gold PSU.

I was reading this site the other day...

https://appuals.com/gold-vs-bronze-psu/

To quote “80+ Bronze power supplies are more than enough for the average consumer.”

Indeed, I don't mind paying a bit more for gold, but it would probably take years after you've replaced the PSU to make any gains in your electric bill to justify the platinum efficiency price differential. You're looking at about 2-4% more power efficiency @50% load between gold and plat. For almost twice the price.

Theoretically the higher efficiency units should be of a better quality with higher specced internals and a longer warranty. The minimum I would go for now is Gold, many of which have 10 or more years warranty these days. My current Aerocool Project 7 650w is Platinum and is a cracking psu but only cost me £82 inc del when it was on offer.

I’m not overly infused by PSU purchases. I just wanted something as cheap as possible to replace my Antec Basiq 550W which only had 2x PCIe power connectors when many top end graphics cards need 3x PCIe power connectors now.

That's the mistake that many people make. Blow a small fortune on a GPU then skimp on the most important component in a pc that has to power everything. The EVGA that you ended up buying would not have been my choice. Apart from the fact it's made by HEC which would have put me off straight away, Tomshardware reviewed the 850w version and were pretty critical of it in their summing up. Just because it has a big brands label on it doesn't make it a good PSU. Even Seasonic can put out poor PSU's such as their SIII series. Always do some research before buying and never skimp on a PSU.

**** the reviews they’re just nit picking I’m happy with it and was the best in my budget with free delivery. Incidentally it’s gone up to £ 74.49 with free delivery now.
