Hi All,

As per the thread title really, i'm looking for recommendations for a new TV for my man cave, it needs to be a minimum of 65 inches and will be used for PS4 and films. Budget is around £3-4k.

Thanks

Well, mine is nearly a year old but I'm not sure much beats the Panasonic VT65 Plasma? Calibrated it really is stunning

Or look for the ZT60 - yes it is only 60" but you may find the picture improvements over the VT65 worth those 5"

Or why not go for a 65" 4k set that can be found for ~£3-4000 for the sets that came out last year.

theirs only 1 small difference between both panels.

both are very hard to find as well.

I would personally pick a VT65 if i had to choose between both as it was available for far cheaper but if i had that kind of money to spend now I would be looking at a 50-55" sony LCD then spank the rest of the budget on a projector and screen.

it's madness to spend £3-4K on a tv IMO when a projector and tv can do the best of both worlds for cheaper.

Thanks guys, a projector and a screen is out of the question as we're moving into a rented property and can't go attaching screens to walls and hanging projectors from ceilings, hence to need for the mahoosive TV

there's not that many tv's which are 65 inches, just buy whatever you can get by a reputable make I doubt the likes of samsung, panasonic or sony made a crap 65 inch £4000 tv.

Have had a 55" for a couple of years, but as daft as it sounds, it can still get lost in a bigger room. Moved to a new house where the man-cave was a bit smaller but the viewing position was a bit closer, and s 55" is the sweet spot for the new room. Been hankering after a projector for the main room before I moved in but a spot-on viewing distance has made me not bother so far.

If your spending that much I would seriously consider the 55" LG OLED, you will not get a better picture than what it produces, I have seen one calibrated in my mates house and it blows all other tvs out of the water including Panasonic's flagship ZT60

Mmm, perfect black! I'd love to see mavity and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on that. Those inky blacks must be mouth watering. Even for something like Tron Legacy.

until a Panny OLED comes out that is.....because you're not comparing like for like right now

i wouldn't buy any other OLED than a Panny, because Panny are the Rolls Royce of TVs.....LG is your Ford Escort, this LG OLED is bound to be good because it's the 1st of the OLEDs, which is a far better technology anyway.

as regards OLEDs, you're best waiting until all the rest comes out and the price starts dropping.

Perhaps the Rolls Royce of plasma. They've never been particularly good with LCD/LED, that falls to Sony and Samsung, or projectors, that's JVC and Sony, and there's no reason to think they'll be the daddy with OLED either :p

Is going to be at least 3 years until the panny OLED comes out and at least 2 years until samsung rerelease, buy that time LG will be miles ahead. Nothing even comes close to the LG OLED and won't for at least 18-24 months.
And before you accuse me of being a LG fan boy I currently own a panny 55dt65 and am getting a new sony 55W829 in a few weeks.

No mate Pioneer were the rolls Royce of plasma (wish I never got rid of my LX5090) panny were shocking for their DFC ( dynamic false contouring) hence the reason I went from LX5090 to GT60 to VT65 to DT65

The new Samsung 2014 TVs are being released,

This is currently available for £4k

The release of this has made last year's UE65F9000s drop in price.

The UE65hu8500 that I linked has caught my eye but I'm giving it a few months to see what else comes in this years line up. I note this is an '8500' series so I'm guessing there will be a new '9000' series offerings plus maybe some flat (instead of curved) options incase the latter is a bit of a gimmick.
