Hey guys

I've got a budget of £290-£310 for a 670. Quite keen on the MSI twin frozr power edition. Anyone have any experience with one?

I was going to get a evga ftw but put off by the reference cooler even if it is a 680 cooler.

I WILL be overclocking :)

maybe i'm being a wuss but i'm cautious about recommending a 670 PE due to msi's fiddling with the voltage supplied to the richtek controller.. I mean, it's a massive over-volt.

MSI have a great rep if something goes wrong, as do EVGA. I use the twin Frozr fan on my lightnings and very good at cooling and quiet.

What's this about over volting? Never heard of that in any reviews? I know the evga is faster out the box but how high can it clock before the temps get too high and the fan goes mental?

Either the msi , slightly slower but cooler or evga faster but hotter? In reality between the two stock there can only be 3-4 fps difference surely?

In some games it will be a difference of 1-2fps so choose what suits you better.

As for the 670 over volting, MSI got their hands smacked for using to many volts on the PE for the 12V rail and this lead to certain systems failing to boot but I believe it is sorted.

Just read an article on it over at toms hardware. I think MSI are redesigning it and releasing the new ones next month. Might just bite the bullet and get one. Do you think my PSU be up to the job?

Your PSU will be fine, it was all a bit of an over reaction to be honest and a lot of fuss over nothing.

This'd be my choice:

Cheapest non ref and it's a great brand! :D

The 7970 version is a little too noisy for my liking, but still much quieter than a reference design. These coolers keep the card cool as hell!

E: Your PSU is fine :)

That's the one! No price/competitor hinting please!

Good good MSI it is. My 460 will be relieved. Had it running 915mhz core and 2020mhz memory for about 2 years :p

Just ordered a MSI power edition. Always bought mid range cards ( x800gto, 4850, 460) and looking forward to some higher end performance. Dead excited :D

It should arrive Thursday so I'll run a few games and have a play then I'll post some overclocks .

Run 3Dmark11 and compare your GPU score to the other 670's in the thread. Use only the GPU scores for comparison though as some have some serious CPU power/clocks.

The MSI 670 PE is a nice card. I think you will be more than happy with it. I certainly am.

Like all 670/680's though, what they will boost to appears to be pretty much "luck of the draw". Mine hits a max of 1163MHz under stress (at stock) but I've seen some hitting 1200+ Though most seem to have a reasonable bit of OC headroom (with a few extra volts mine hits almost 1300MHz).

Enjoy.

Amen :D the wind force is £20 more than the msi and I just don't like the look of it. No doubts a great card though!

Is looks really that important?

Where is your PC base unit?

How often do you look in the window (if it has one)?

Can you even see the card from where you sit normally?:p
