Which 750 External Should I Buy???? HELP!

Which 750 Gig External Should I Buy???? HELP!

Hi Guys.. :)

Im in the process of getting an external 750 gig hard drive. :D

The 2 im looking at are either :-

Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB USB2.0/eSATA/Firewire External Hard Drive

Or

Western Digital MyBook Essential 750GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive

Ive read that the Seagate one gets hot and ive also read that the WD isnt reliable and there are lots of people who say its either died on them or it just doesnt get recognized in windows after certain periods.. :(

I definetly need a 750 gig so what do you guys think i should do??? :confused:

Any help is much appreciated...

WD tend to be the one of the most reliable drives you can buy as are Seagate. If you are concerned about reliability then get the Seagate as it has a 5-year warranty.
 
As someone who owns a 750GB FreeAgent Pro, I can recommend it. It's very quite, solidly built, doesn't seem to get overly hot (the case gets a bit warm after a while, but that's it). And it looks reet nice as well.

Either way, I love mine and I'd certainly recommend it.
 
Well I ventured out to our local computer fair and I purchased a Seagate 750 Gig Sata 2 hard drive..

I went home and decied to go to the Seagate site and do a warranty check on it.

I put in the serial number and the part number on the drive and it came up with the following :-

The product you identified was sold as a system component. Please contact your place of purchase for service. Seagate sells many drives to direct OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers. These products are usually configured for the OEMs only, as components for their systems. You must contact your place of purchase for any warranty support on these drives.

Does this mean ive been screwed over and I dont have the 5 years manufactures warranty that the guy said came with the drive??

What are my best options???

Correct. The person you purchased it from is buying dodgy stock from somewhere rather than an official Seagate source which is why you should always by from a larger company who are an authorized Seagate supplier.

If the person you bought it from has written that the drive has a 5 year warranty then he is legally obliged to supply the warranty himself for that period. If he has not done this then you will have a maximum of a year (unless they are decent honest company).

Take the drive back and see what happens.
