Building a gaming rig for a friend, and I already have a 775 mobo I'm going to give him, but I'm not sure which cpu to put in it. OC only have a few quads (was going to get a Q6600, but they're gone) so I wasn't sure whether to get a high clocking C2D instead. Thoughts?

If your 775 board is a good clocker, just get the E5300 and clock the nuts off it, or keep your eye out for a q6600 on mm.

if your budget is ~60-90 buy 2nd hand. look for an E8xxx or q6600.

Any higher and look for a q9550 E0

E6300 Pentium Dual core would be a good bet. Mine does 4Ghz yet my E5200 would only do 3.6Ghz and needed more voltage. Similar price to the E5300 if you look around. In fact you can get them brand new for £52.99.
