Which 790FX Board

I've just ordered a MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790FX (Socket AM2+) .
I'm hoping to get a better clock out of my 5000BE for now and be ready for when some decent Phenoms start coming out or they come down to a more reasonable price.

Also possibly looking at getting 3870x2 or 2 x 3870 whichevers better.

Let us know how you get one bud, haven't seen a review about the motherboard but have been reading on other forums about user experiences with the 5000+ BE and the MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790FX clocking over 3.2Ghz without problems.

you can get the 9500 at £129 retail, and see the 9600 on offer at £150 often, which puts them both well priced but the 9500 specifically is a great priced quad.

i did something very unusual for me and stumped up for the black edition 9600 as it was pretty much my xmas pressie. was going to grab 2x3870's for £250, but, decided to wait a bit see if some info pops up on the X2 version dates as it would be a better solution i guess but more importantly the only reason to offer 2 gpu's on one card is to save costs a little, so the X2 should be lower rrp than 2 separate cards, however early low stocks often mean price gouging which could mean not cheaper for a month or two.

i went with the gigabyte in the end, Ds5 version as the ones below it offer the slightly cheaper version with less pci-e lanes for use in crossfire, while the 790fx chipset gives you 2x16 pci-e slots. I really wanted to go for the DFi board but its still not available in the UK, despite i think being out since earlyish december in the states and elsewhere.

The msi top end board is great value, 4 slots, decent layout and features but when it comes down to it, its said to be hard to overclock these boards and of all the manu's i expect the least overclocking support and updated bios's from MSI which basically rules them out.

I'm debating on the MSI but not sure if I should go ahead with puchasing it along with the 5000+ BE. What's it like compared to the top end ASUS 790FX offerings?

Woah woah woah... sweet child o' mine! :D There's a DFI mobo available! Ooohhh.... must go Google! I love my Lanparty SLI-D, it has more options and settings than a Nuclear Submarine. Quality board for Overclocking!

"Overclocking"!!!

I want to order the MSI and the 5000+ BE but not sure as yet wether it's worth it?

Thats what I got coming hehe :D
Well I've already got the black edition.
Its gonna be nice having a board with lots of upgrade capabilities for the future, when Phenoms come down in price and imrpove somewhat. And it even seems like ATI might be back in the game with their upcoming and current 3870's. Wouldnt mind a full on spider platform by end of march ;)

Ive heard lots of people raving about DFI's, whts so good about them as a brand?

Probably the best BIOS' in the world. They offer just so many options to tweak the system to your hearts content. Feature packed as well, but the boards are sometimes let down by poor layouts (not massive things, just small things). However the modding community usually work their magic and offer some really good BIOS' for them as well. Also, the componets used are high quality (well, they are on the LanParty series). :)

But I've never had one problem (touches wood) with my LanParty SLI-D. Rock solid. I really like the DFI boards.

Mmmmmm defo the one to get me-thinks!

That's what I was thinking about future upgrades such as the PCI-Express 2.0, Quad Core and future AM2+ processors on there way soon saves buying a new motherboard end of this year to keep up with it all.

The MSI is rather tempting along with the Black Edition 5000+ processor.
