which 7950?

I got the MSI Twin Frozr III and I love it.

Runs cool, quiet and looks quite nice as well.

If you get the V2 it also comes with 1x6pin and 1x8pin instead of the 6x6 which helps with overclocking.

I got mine to 1060MHz/1400Mhz on stock voltage.

Did 1.25Ghz on core with 1.22v but the cooler will get noticeably louder cause of the increase in temps.

I have a 7950 DD and it's certainly not quiet but I would not say it's loud. You can hear it when gaming etc.

Personally I would buy the HIS 7950 Ice Q if your looking. Its a superb card and the cooler works really well and is not too loud..
 
IceQ. Gigabytes are supposed to be good too, but they don't have any VRM cooling nor voltage tweaking as a result, which would put me off them.
 
I think the only way you will get the noise level of the his iceq 6950 is to buy a cheap 7950 and install an accelero on it. They are so quite its unreal.....

My gigabyte is not voltage locked . And even when running the memory at 1550 it never went over 72 deg . One of the 3 fans sits directly over the memory which helps cooling .
 
The new models are voltage locked though, because of the lack of the VRM heatsink, too many unstable cards when overvolting. Have you checked the VRM temps? They're supposed to be pretty high.

I have never personaly had a problem with my VRM temps . At the moment my card is in 2d mode as i have live streams running at in another window ,so memory is at 1250 mhz and temp 1 is 40 deg and temp2 is 44 deg . They never went over 72 deg when overvolting to run some benchmarks. I think the fact that one of the fans sits above the ram chips helps somewhat .
I am using a silverstone fortress case which helps keep all my components very cool ??

My recently bought Gigabyte WFX3 7950 seems ok. Still not got round to overclocking but a couple of loops of Heaven on extreme settings at 1920X1080 temps max at 51c on 35% fan and vrm temps at 55\56c. Voltage peaked at 0.967v 900\1250 stock. Dont know if it is voltage locked, will find out soon, what is a safe max voltage to try up to for these cards.:)

I would not put more than 1.25 volts through it !

Yeh, I'm the same, whenever I get a new card I spend a day or two benchmarking with Heaven for comparisons only. Here is what I did today:

Gigabyte WF3 7950 bought last week (from competitor).

At stock (900\1250) 0.967v 35%fan, max temp 51c, vrms 55\56c
OC (1250\1250) 1.25vAB,1.219vGpu-z, 47%fan, max temp 64c, vrms 65\66c

Heaven Score : FPS= 63.4/80.7 OC
Scores= 1596/2034 OC
Min FPS=40.5/47.9 OC
Max FPS=137.6/171.2 OC @ 1920X1080 4XAA 8XAnistropy Normal Tesselation.

I did get 22secs at 1301\1250 @1.29vAB, 1.248vGpu-z in Heaven before it bugged out, shame thought I was gonna get the magic 1300. You will notice that Afterburner(which I was using to OC and up the voltage( version 2.2.0 with the unlocker cheat added) reported different voltages from Gpu-z, I dont know which one was accurate.
So I am guessing my GByte WF3 7950 does not have the voltage locked.
Hope this helps some of you folks come to a decision on a card, I certainly dont seem to have any issues with temps, vrms, voltage etc.:D

I have an XFX DD but also used an IceQ, the IceQ is a better card but costs about £20 extra on offer.

The Extreme is fantastic at keeping the core cool but...

It really is a poor show considering the heat put out on the vrms on the 79's.

I used to recommend the Ac's as second to none in the grand scheme of aircooling a gpu(CrossFire/SLi compatible), but now only if you pay extra on top for the Alpenföhn heatsinks.

Poor poor show considering it would have added a couple of £'s at the most on top of the price for proper heatsinks.:(

AB doesn't read vrm temps as standard, you can either use gpu-z and log to file and go over the info later or add Hwinfo vrm temps to AB(if your gpu has vrm readouts and use the osd to view ingame-they don't all have vrm info though:
