which 7950?

I think there are only a handful of cards that let you monitor VRAM temps...
If there's another way, I'd love to hear about it.

Oh, and vram clocks can make a big difference in heaven

On GPUZ, if it says "VRM Temperature" that's not the VRAM, it's the VRMs.

As for "tongue in cheek" that wasn't my point, my point was based on you reading it wrong.

Ok, but still a bit confused then ? Gpuz measures The Vrm temp which i understand what it does, but why no vram temp monitor . Is it not important as long as the vrm's are kept under control ? I always thought artifacts were caused by overheating vram which leads me to wondering why no vram monitor ... Am i missing something about the relationship between vrm and vram. ??

I haven't checked to see if it measures vram temps tbh. It's rarely a concern in terms of overclocking (I saw a gain of 1fps in heaven with a 100mhz VRAM overclock, so I don't push it too hard for the small gains it gives)

Clocking the memory will only make a difference when the framerate is being limited by a lack of memory bandwidth. So you're looking at very high resolutions where it'll make a difference. Multi-monitor, 7680x1440 and so on.

VRAM temps aren't as important. Artifacts are caused my different things, too low voltage, too high clockspeed, as well as too high temps. It's more than likely going to be because of too high a clockspeed or too low a voltage (which is really the same thing depending on how you look at it).

89c/90%fan on auto, 1100/1400MHz,@1.080v(1.030v stock), the 7970 sits at about 52c in the second slot.

I know it runs cooler, but that's an insane difference.

If I don't touch voltage and run@1010/1400MHz and leave the fan on auto, it goes to about ~78c.

I'm planning on running the 7950@1100 though as to get the gpu usage of the 7970 up to ~99%, as on matched clocks it only goes to about 90%(ish).

Hopefully the AC extreme should sort out the heat issues.

Yeah that's insane. About the same level as my worst 7950 of the two MSI ones.

The DD cooler is garbage tbh now I've had it a couple of weeks.

Hopefully my mounting plate will arrive soon and I can get my hands dirty attempting to reduce the temps.
